Preparing for Winter V

Please everybody who had this bug, take care and take time to get better! Looking back now, I realise that's when my ME started - I had a really bad cold/flu that just would not clear up, I remember having it for 5 weeks. At that time I was going to work on a motorbike, in winter. And after 5 weeks it went intO a sinus infection and then I got glandular fever. I kept working most of the time with only a few bad days off.
Looking back now, after that episode I always took 4-5 weeks to get over any wee cold bug, the doc said post-viral syndrome. That was in 1999.... and in 2004 I got ME.
ME hit me because I ignored what my body was saying and worked through a number of illnesses within one year, but at the time I was driven by the need to survive and comply with a less than understanding employer and OH. Neither of which are still a part of my life now thankfully.
I second your advice to others and had been thinking the same as I was reading of so many being hit by colds and struggling to get over the effects.
Tip;
For those with sore lips and noses my remedy is a hemp lip stick (or lipsalve, but not so good) around all the affected area and up each nostril (wipe stick after) just before sleep. Next morning less or no soreness. Sorry if that sounds disgusting or unhygenic, but it works much better for me than vaseline.I am cutting right down on sugar due to health reasons too. I have never limited mine or the children's salt (I don't add lots but if it needs it, it goes in. We use the himalayan pink salt or m@ldons sea salt) and am lowering processed carbs where possible too. I just need to get up earlier so we can have a small cooked breakfast daily.
We have been fed a whole load of rubbish verbally and literally for the last few decades but fortunately word is now getting out there.
Margarine, I ask you.. Who would eat that horrible stuff. Real butter in this house for the last 15+ years! yum.
I could have written all of the above.
I have always prefered natural unprocessed foods and refused to believe the flora and artificial sweetner hype. Since having access to information via the net I now find my gut feeling to be correct on so much.
I read labels and I'm often annoyed by ingredients lists. Is it me or are the lists of ingredients being printed smaller and smaller, even with reading glasses I often have to get the magnifying glass out of my bag to see.
Prepping your body for all seasons and life in general is just as important as prepping your home and car etc at least in my book.
For those that drink milk, have you looked at the effects of consuming homogenised milk. This has been linked to various health problems and is why we now only drink un homogenised milk. Yes that means that the cream rises to the top, but a quick shake and it's distributed throughout the milk in a natural way.0 -

Where can you buy un homogenised milk from?
Sainsbobs, 0cado, Waitr0se, Abel & Cole and depending on where you live Riverford.

And to help people understand the process of homogenisation,

Health implications,

There are some in the scientific community that say the effects of homogenisation cause heart diease and some that refute those claims. It's important that everyone looks at both sides of the arguement and makes thier own mind up.
Personally I believe that the process is there to help the food industry and not the consumer and since much research is sponsered by the industry I trust my instincts on this. Apart from anything else un homogenised tastes like milk used to.
For anyone intrested in food and health there are quite a few good documentries on netflix if you subscibe or you toob.

Whats happened to the thread ? Where is everyone ?
All safe and well I hope, preparing for Christmas I guess.0 -
I am here
I guess admin deleted a few posts
Finally our tree is up! I am exhausted with SAD so I am glad that I have been better prepped this year than previously. I still have plenty to do but have finished work for the year so if I put in a couple of hours a day, I will get it all done by Christmas Day
There are not enough hours in the day this time of year for doing things, or at night for sleeping!0 -
Fruball, I was a bit confused but thought there end of the thread had disappeared.
I'm glad to hear it's still running:)
Sounds like you've been really busy but prepping means you're on track.0 -
I too have been struck down by the lurgy going round. I've had two trips to the doctors. On the mend now but I need to restock the freezer and catch up on the washing and cleaning.
We have had loads of rain here. The river levels are high. It's been quite mild but the forecast is for the weather to get colder over the Christmas period. Some dry, crisp days would be most welcome. The house feels damp and the dehumidifier is running constantly.
Hope everyone who is poorly feels better soon.

My little lad has been unwell too, he's still coughing. DD and I have been ok (touches wood). Oddly enough, we both had the flu vaccine. But what he's had wasn't like flu. But when I have the jab, I rarely catch these bugs, and if I do it for no more than 2-3 days and very mild.
Anyway, it's wild here and the school run was interesting. I swear little DD almost got blown away by the icy wind. She was shouting all the way home "stop winding me!" Lol.
Glad we have no reason to go out tomorrow.Bossymoo

We had a dress down day at preschool yesterday, & I asked the boss if we would be able to wear warmer trousers in the winter, such as my lovely cosy m and s ones I was wearing, & she said yes as long as they're black :-). This is such a relief - it was milder yesterday anyway, but I was fine with long welly socks & my fleece trousers, whereas if I wear the smarter trousers, I need tights & socks under them as soon as it gets cool. And one of the girls can't cope with layers and gets cold easily so really suffers.
Now all I need to do is find nice, long lasting, black fleece trousers for short women :-D!0
