Honeymoon advice-USA-New York and ? Somewhere else

We would like to go to NY for our honeymoon in 2016. We actually get married next year but hope with time we could have a good sum for our trip.

We aren't fussed by what season and I'm not keen on snow/ice so won't be winter!

I'm thinking perhaps 5 days in NY and then 5-7 dates elsewhere. Where would be easy-ish to get to I.e relatively cheap flight? Maybe somewhere warm? I really don't have a specific preference but wondered about Vegas or Hawaii or LA? Equally we could just do 2cities?

I guess we'd look at maybe 3k and we think flights to NY are likely to come under £800 return for us both judging by norwegian air prices etc

  • Bermuda is easily accessible from New York, Jet Blue flights. Think you would best staying East rather than going to the West Coast.

Hawaii is a LONG way from NYC, 10+ hours even on a direct flight from NYC, and a further 5 hours time difference. Also going to be expensive. Wouldn't recommend it combined with NYC if you're on a budget.

Depending on the time of year, you don't have to go that far from NYC to get warmth, in the summer the Atlantic Coast is warm. Depends how much you want action or chill out. Vegas always worth a visit, but is a 5 hour flight from NY. If it's not midsummer or hurricane season (roughly end June to early Nov), Miami might be worth considering. Good combination of beach and nightlife, and same time zone as NY, though not the cheapest place in the world.

Could also consider Mexico / Caribbean, though not sure what that combination with NY would do to flight costs.

We did Vegas and the Florida Keys for our honeymoon. Vegas was OK, but a bit full on for us after the run up to the wedding. We really enjoyed the Keys, it was very relaxed, but you could jump in the car and go for an explore if you wanted something to do. You're also still in the east coast, so an easy flight and no time difference.

Just back this year from LA and San Francisco. Not sure you'd want 5-7 days in LA, and I can see why some people say to give it a miss altogether, but it was good to see the landmarks. San Fran was a good city break - again not sure you'd want 7 days, but you could fill 4 or 5.

+1 for Florida after NY (where you'll easily spend 5 days). Orlando if you want Disney style entertainment, or the Keys for something a bit more relaxing.
About 9 years ago, we took our DD to Key Largo (the start of the Keys) to swim with dolphins (dolphinsplus.com I believe) and then went on to Key West. It was amazing! Slightly less commercialised than swimming with Dolphins in Orlando would have been I felt, but could have changed now.

Fly to Boston, grab a car rental, tour Martha's Vineyard, cape cod, Newport and Nantucket. Beautiful area.

Thanks so much for the advice-really helpful! My American geography is not great so the comments about time differences etc really have given pause for thought.

So if we decided to do NY then somewhere I.e Caribbean, would we find it cheaper ( generally speaking) to fly back to NY for return flight or fly directly back?

Florida keys could also be an idea-not fussed on Disney stuff but it does look beautiful. Presumably an open jaw would work ok?

It'll probably be our only trip there-a once in a lifetime thing.
  • We're doing New York and cancun (well just north of cancun) next year. With some UK travel agents you can get hotels like the EXcellence Playa Mujeres for about £200 per night all inclusive. With BA you can do an open jaw so one ticket into jfk out of cancun, you'll get better value if you buy in the sale. Also if you're paying for a wedding look at getting an amex membership rewards card or ba amex - if you collect avios you can also use these for American Airlines flights and maybe save some money on your flight between the two destinations.
  • I second Florida Keys or how about the Bahamas (one of the smaller islands, not Nassau). Or for something different, get the Amtrak train to Washington DC.
