You said they said sorry when they offered you the £50 ?
  • In my world, £200 is quite a big sorry.

It sounds like all the communication has been by phone.

A written complaint is formal and will be dealt with by different people, and is required to take a complaint further (such as to the FO) if the OP decides they need to.

If addressed properly a complaint should be logged whether Verbal or written, there should be no discrimination. A complaint should not have to be put in writing. If the OP is not happy with what has been placed on the table the company handling the complaint have 8 weeks to conclude, the person registering the complaint should be updated during the handling and processing of the complaint and then and only after the 8 weeks have elapsed can the complaint be taken to the Ombudsman.
The OP should have been given a reference for the complaint.

No that was a very long story short. What they actually said during a 1 1/2 hour conversation where they themselves had to investigate where the money had gone ) was sorry we did not swap the balances over when the second mistake happened.

What they did not say is sorry someone in our branch altered your chq so it could not be cashed. ( which is really bad)

Sorry someone then allocated the money to the wrong account. ( which again is not good)

Sorry someone in collections spoke to you like a piece of XXXX. ( which was not nice not his fault I am sure collections get a lot of " I have already paid " but I was telling the truth)

In their mind the only issue was someone not swapped the balances over when they realised that they had allocated the money to the wrong account.

It has taken hours - lots and lots of phone calls, literally to sort this out. It has possibility taken longer because when I cleared the balances and was w woo debt free I cut up the cards and closed the accounts so every time I called I could not give all the extra bits of security they wanted.

I just want someone to hold their hands up and take accountability. Thank God I kept all the receipts showing paid in full.

Yes £50 is a lot of money yes £200 is also a lot having just cleared over £20,000 I am at last used to saving and this genuinely is not about money. Also I do not want to come across as ungrateful instead just annoyed. It is about the Halifax and their systems which would allow this to happen.

Again have to say so pleased I do not have a current account or mortgage with them as I hate to think what could happen.

i don't find them very impressive either, certainly don't fancy using Halifax as my 'main bank'.
sorry to read you've had this hassle.
£200 is useful, but i would still formalise your complaint and push it as far as you can.

Agree, Halifax were close to useless for me and their apologies (and associated dosh) means very little if it changes nothing - push through your compliant as much as possible

    Thanks everyone I will.

The building company called today to send over the written quote which while is more than expected ( I always think it should cost less ha ha ) is fair. I have had to stall him and have gone from yes please start straight away to mmm I will have to think about it and get back to you. Really don't like having to lie just because yet again they have messed up.

Well guess there is nothing much more I can do now until they write to me.

Halifax really does give you xtra. Xtra hassle, xtra grief, xtra defaults for no apparent reason and xtra messing around.

Don't think that they are going to let me sing about that one on TV ha ha .

Had to laugh, bless a little girly from Halifax called yesterday night about 6.30 to ask for a feedback review on how my calls had been handled. Could not leave 0 so had to say 1.

I actually felt sorry for her. My statement is due on the 19th ( the day I go on holiday to see my mum ) so it should be fun?
