Do you leave your purse/wallet at home?

I often go out and deliberately leave my purse at home - just taking enough cash for what I really need.
It works really well. Sadly yesterday I went out with my credit card "just in case" and spent £630!!!!

on what?!
When I'm at uni, I leave my purse at home a lot as I live on campus so I walk to lectures and then walk back.. at home when I'm driving around, I take it with me but only take a bit of cash so I'm not too tempted

I either leave the purse at home or take all cards out and just leave only the spending money for the day in my purse (plus I leave an emergency tenner in the side pocket of the handbag - the current one has been in there so long I forget its there!).
I just find the trick for me is to avoid the shops at all costs.
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

I read somewhere here about putting in a note in your purse with WWMD? on it (What Would Martin Do?) I think that's really funny. More useful than asking what would Jesus do, IMHO....0

when i go to work i try to take a bottle of made up squash with me and maybe some snacks like crisps from home. this week and the rest of the holidays i dont even wanna leave the house. if i do it will be without money due to having 2 kidsi will be debt free, i will0

I only take the money for what I need e.g. food shopping (out of pre-allocated budgets) with me. We are trying to crack the mortgage in three at the moment, and so are being ultra-disciplined with regards to spending. As long as I have the mobile with me, and enough diesel in the car, I can't see the need to to take the purse out with me. No money = no spending.0

I'd find a desk full of a month's supply of snacks a far greater temptaton that having my wallet with me. I reckon I'd have to replace them every 3-4 days...My eyes! The goggles do nothing!0

I leave my purse at home. But then I don't do 'shopping' per se, Ie walking round the shops browsing. Have 2 dear sons who hate shopping is a real disincentive to window shop:eek: . But then I don't impulse buy anyway:A
Hypno what was the £630 for? And can you take it back?
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

July (well last week of June to first week of August) is my downfall time of the year - I work 10 hour days and am often in at weekends as well. I start of with good intentions, packed lunch, snacks & drinks from the food shopping. By mid July, the cupboards are bare so I use cash for breakfast & lunch from the canteen (about £5) snacks (chocolate - depends how bad the day has been) and taxis. Last year I spent over £600, this year I set a budget, took all the money and split it into wallets (£70 a week) and what doesn't get spent I'll put towards a debt. Touch wood, I'm winning by £100 and I've only got 9 days to go so it could be anything from £100 to £190!!!
Outside these times, I only carry cash in my purse and only the budgeted spend amount for the week (aobut £20).
It does take trial and error (and sometimes keeping a diary to track where your weaknesses are helps - it did with me. I never walk past the book shop anymore otherwise I'd spend all my money in there)DFW Nerd Club #545 Dealing With Our Debt
