PIN blocking of CC when outside the UK?

Is it just me or do others suffer from this malady too? My bank seem to think that i am not allowed to leave the UK and i have continual issues with pin blocking. This despite using the "notify us when going abroad" facility. It is a curious thing that it is perfectly possible to do swipe transactions but not chip and pin so there are two layers of security,one blockable,the other apparently not..
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

None of my multitude of cards have given me the slightest bit of trouble, no matter where I have used it (Asia or Middle East).0 -
Which bank? I've also never had any problem with any of my card issuers.0

The folly of it is that it is still perfectly possible to do swipe transactions and CNP transactions on it i.e just the sort of thing that a fraudster would seek to do whereas i ,the legit customer am prevented from doing chip and pin transactions where a swipe machine doesnt exist.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Well with swipe the merchant is liable for misused cards whereas with C&P the customer is.
I haven't had any trouble either but then I rarely use UK cards outside the UK, preferring to have local bank accounts in the countries I spend most time in0 -
You still haven't bothered to tell us which bank it is, if you do that perhaps others can tell you whether they are able to use that bank's cards with C&P or if it's a common problem with them.0

Thats only the case in Chip countries. A US merchant for example isn't liable when they take a UK chip card via magstripe (Not until October 2015 anyway).
From experience most banks act the other way and treat magnetic stripe transactions with much more suspicion.0 -
I have issues to - with Tesco bank infact my card is constantly blocked due to online foreign transactions.
As I live in Northern Ireland, I buy from many online suppliers in the South in Euro, and also have family in Australia so buy for them on Australian websites.Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0 -

Different issue to the OP though, whose problem is using the PIN when out of the UK, it sounds like you are doing online transactions at foreign websites, which won't require your PIN (at least, I hope you've never provided it!).0 -

I've had no problems with Halifax, N&P and Nationwide.
Well, that's not entirely true. I've had my card rejected a few times, however I'm 99% certain that's been a technical issue with the terminal or data connection. Fortunately it hasn't happened for a few months now.
Santander wouldn't let me withdraw any money from a cashmachine abroad using my debit card, but I find them generally a bit touchy.0 -

Did you ring your bank to ask them?
It maybe that your card is fine, but the ATM you used is not. ATMs generally have default messages about contacting the card issuer which are programmed to appear on the screen when it can't establish a link.
Your bank isn't trying to hold you up on purpose. They will have more information on why your card won't work abroad, so I'd suggest giving them a quick tinkle.0
