Tyre Valve Connector - 12V Air Pump
Hi folks
I have a 12V tyre pump which works well, except for the thumb-turn valve connector on the end:

The connector no longer grips the tyre valve. Even if I hold it on the valve, air still leaks out.
Instead of getting a new air pump, might it be possible to replace just the connector on the end?
If so, what would you folks recommend? A similar thumb-lock or a screw-on valve connector?
Hopefully it'll be a simple case of cutting the existing one off the end and replacing with a new connector valve and this sort of hose clip:

If it doesn't work, I'll get a new air pump, but I'm just trying to avoid getting rid of something that may be easily repaired.

You can certainly get pipe clips/ clamps but thats one big a§s pump if the hose is 13mm0

I did this many years ago on my electric pump and it is still working fine today.
I used a nylon cable tie e.g. here to secure the hose onto the valve serrations rather than a metal clip.
Can't comment on a screw on type as have always used this type e.g. here
Should be a cheap and easy repair. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Google or put footpump connector into eBay.The man without a signature.0

Thanks very much for the replies, helpful to know others have successfully tried a similar repair. The air pump isn't anything particularly high end, it was bought from Argos a few years ago.
Tempted to go for this valve connector - it seems more durable than a thumb-lock so will give it a try.
There are 6mm and 8mm valve connectors available - I'm pretty sure I need 8mm for a car (Schrader) valve, is that right? Update: I've now ordered the 8mm one as that's the diameter of a Schrader valve.0 -
Screw on ones are the best if you can find one at the right price.

I've never yet met a car wheel that didn't use a standard Schrader valve. Many bicycles do as well. So you should be fine.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
I purchased the item in molerat's post (link) but the air hose is so thick (and the connector of the new valve is thick too), it split when I was pushing the new valve into it.

So, last ditch to save this air compressor will be a trip to halfords to purchase this (link), provided the part that goes inside the hose is thinner than the ebay part.
If anyone reading this can recommend any particular tyre inflator pump (in the event this one can't be mended) it'd be appreciated.

With a trailer that has a flat every time I go to use it, I bought this.

Plug it in, set to the required pressure and away you go.
Loads better than the one I used to borrow from the BIL (cheapest of the cheap) and currently (supposedly) half price. Think I paid £17.99.0 -
If the pipe is plastic try heating it before pushing the connector in.I purchased the item in molerat's post (link) but the air hose is so thick (and the connector of the new valve is thick too), it split when I was pushing the new valve into it.
