Going London to Leeds for our biannual trip in 2 weekends time but dont need to be in Leeds until circa 6pm and currently dont have a plan for Sunday.
We have spent too much time in Leeds, York and Manchester so looking for other options on the way up and the Sunday.
No kids, like places with character or history. Obviously need to take into account the weather as we are certainly fair weather walkers.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Chester would be enroute.0

On another forum, we recently had a weekend in Liverpool ( I am local-ish to there) and all the 'visitors' had a good time.
Museums, galleries, maritime museum, Liverpool docks, theatres and shops, plenty of choice if the weather is not great.
Chester is good too. I am mid-way between the two.0 -
If the weather is dry you can't beat the Dales for the Sunday.
Grassington is lovely in December.
For history Haworth, Skipton, Fountains Abbey, Harrogate are all good.Zebras rock0 -
Plenty of options along the M1 on the trip up. Chatsworth House, Bolsover Castle, Cannon Hall, Yorkshire Sculpture Park and if you want a trip underground the National Mining Museum near Wakefield.
Of those Chatsworth would be top of my list.
The village of Saltaire is worth a visit for a chilled out Sunday. Wander round the mill with the Hockney gallery, plenty of coffee shops and bars, canalside walks if the weather is fine.0 -
How about Derbyshire? Bakewell BuxtonLife is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.0

In North Nottinghamshire there's Cresswell Crags with visitor centre, cave tours and walks.

Nearby is the Old School Tea Room.

There are a few suggestions which would be quite a diversion from M1/A1 - worthy of a separate trip
to add to the A1 route north - Stamford perhaps?0 -
I think Manchester will be a great choice. It will be en route and you will love the place, There is so much to see in the Manchester. Like, Museum of Science and Industry, Old Trafford, Heaton Park, Manchester Cathedral. These are the most amazing places to see in Manchester. You should must visit the place you'll love that.0
