You could get Viber deskptop, it will also allow you to make free calls ... the recipients need to be on Viber though

Remember that many 'free' PC>SMS sites are basically there to harvest email addresses and phone numbers for spam purposes.

Some providers will allow you to borrow a pound. Sainsbury's is one.

O2 allow 10 free texts per month online.
