Switching Providers - Timing

Options
This may sound like a silly question, but I have been with Vodafone for a while but will be switching to Virgin when my contract is up on the 4th of December.

Voda have told me getting a PAK code now would cost me a small termination fee, whilst it will would be free with no notice if I phone back on the 1st of December.

So when would be the best time to contact Virgin for a Sim only deal, bearing in mind I want to keep the same number and have a no loss of service for longer than a couple of hours whilst the switch over takes place?

Thanks.

The minimum term is up, not the contract.

They lied. As one-month's notice is required to cancel the contract they will charge you for a month after giving you the PAC even if you port the number out earlier. If you call on the 1st of Dec they will charge you for another month until the 1st of Jan.

Get the PAC now. It lasts for 30 days. Voda will charge you until Dec 24 (most likely a part of this period was paid in advance). Give the PAC to Virgin about on Dec 20th (not later) if you don't want to pay for the same period twice.
