OS Daily thread Monday 24th November
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Still dark, but looks to be cold and frosty.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 up and getting ready to go to work.
We ended up with a late lunch of junk food, that DH and myself picked up on our way home so everyone had been fed by a reasonable time and not waiting to eat for ages – made a nice change. Tonight will be a proper dinner with veg though. Had a lovely weekend and night away was great, lots of laughs, good company, excellent food and drink.
I have loads to do today – I have a week’s annual leave booked before I was off and I said I’d cancel it and move it to another time if they wanted me too, and was told that I didn’t need to do that as if I left it until later in the year – it’s more difficult for them to fit it in as that’s our busiest time but also the end of the financial year and start of new one. As I haven’t done any of my xmas shopping that’s my plan for today – I want to get that pretty much sorted today – I have ideas for most people so should be able to get on with it.
I also need to make the xmas cake and xmas puds. Hoping I can get the fruit soaking in alcohol later today so it has a good couple of days.
I have a happy household this morning especially DS1 after Hamilton won the last GP race of the season yesterday and secured the title – such a great ambassador for this country and his sport.
Take care x
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Off to work in a sec, hubby's still in bed, he's on lates this week.
I went to bed just after 8 last night & slept through 'til 6 this morning, I was so tired as my furry lodger wanted a walk at 4:30am!
I shall be very busy today as I still have a large order to process, DGD is at gym club so I will take her & then work through 'til she's finished. I'll take my time back on Thursday when I'm taking hubby back to have his feet checked again.
Tonight I shall have a jacket potato for tea with salmon & lunch will be avocado, thanks for the info Molly.
I need to get on with some sewing tonight if I've any energy left after a long day, if not I'll sit & crochet more of my blanket.
Time I set off for work.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Good Morning Hester, NMLC and all to follow.
Dry but cold start here today, so glad its not raining. Was horrible drive yesterday.
Today am getting back in the routine of getting up early. Very easy to wake up naturally but find I function better when I set the alarm. Am off to an appointment in a local town for 9am this morning. Will pick up something for dinner whilst out, didn't have a roast yesterday so will have one today.
Once home will set a timetable for myself to do some paperwork then some ironing and housework - seriously need to catch up with everything. I will also write a menu plan for the rest of the week.
Thats it from me, have a great day x0 -
Morning all,
Much colder here today but no rain atm.
Took little dog for her vets check on saturday which was fine no problems at all, yesterday lunch time she started to be sick again so we rushed her back in, poor little thing has been in overnight again on a drip, the vet said they would call us first thing this morning to see how she is, Its getting very close to making that heart breaking decision, the very last thing I want is for her to be in pain, will see what the vet says and decide from there
I am off to work today tbh its the last thing I want to do, but I may need some time off later in the week so I have to go in.
Have good days all xx
Sistercas thinking of you xx0 -

Morning All
Not frosty here, chilly but ok. Yesterday was a beautiful day, cold but crisp. Not sure what it will be like today.
Washing up to date, house tidy and ready to cope with another week. Feeling better but still coughing, DD is the same but she hasn't had a cold. Yet.
Taking some more stuff to the charity shop after work and then need to get some more wax to finish off my bed, DD had the car yesterday or it would have been done.
RR - Not sure what to say, just remember we are all here.
HH - make sure you take that time back!
Hugs to all, especially if you feel a little down. Hope you have a good week. Take care. XX0 -
Mornings all,
Frosty here, sunshine later apparently. :T
Had sausage and mash with yellow sticker sausages, but didn't like them. Any suggestions what I do with the four I have left? Don't want to bin them, but can't think of something that will disguise them!
Washing on. Lovely sunrise this morning.
Sistercas ((((((((HUGS))))))))))
Have a good day all. :TI Believe in saving money!!!:T
A Bargain is only a bargain if you need it!0 -
Redruby - hope that Little Dog makes it - its so distressing - you are in my thoughts xx
Sistercas - also thinking of you and your family xxx
Im taking Molly Dog to the vets as she needs a B12 injection. Hope it starts to help asap as I am sleeping half the night downstairs with her.
Hugs for an OS day xxxxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Hi everyone,
Back from our weekend away. We had a lovely time with our friends (DH's best friend and wife, they've been friends almost 60 yrs). No OS unless you count using the bacon and sausages in our freezer up there.
I need to review my store cupboard to see what I need to buy to make the pudding and the cake at the weekend. I'm only making a small cake this year because DH moans that he's the only one who eats it and he eats it far too quickly.
It looks like we've had the first real frost here so I'd better get going in case I need to scrape the car windows before I go to work.
Have a good day.0 -
Morning all ,back home again after grandson sitting three of the boys over the weekend They were good as gold and no problem at all.
Just spotted on the posts a few days ago a recipe for pineapple chutney which looks really easy one of the throw everything in the slow cooker and leave overnight to cook Thank you inkies it looks really good and I am going to give it a go ,I think pineaplle chutney with sliced gammon at Christmas sounds lovely I wonder how long it would keep(in my house not long I expect )I love any recipe that involve throwing stuff in the slow cooker and just walking away:):)
Right time to get a wriggle on enough chinwagging for now
Have a good day everyone and keep wrapped up and warm if you can
Cheers JackieO xxx0 -
Morning all,
bright and sunny here but oh so cold. I went to take the rubbish out only to scuttle back in as fast as my legs would carry me. Brrrr!
Lots of work being done in my road today, one neighbour has had a conifer tree chopped down out of his garden that was nearly as tall as his house. If it had been down to me I'd have asked them to cut my lot down because I love trees but not in gardens. Hubby is rather attached to them and hell will freeze over before he parts with them. However, don't tell him, I'm trying my best to send one particular tree in my garden to the great park in the sky. Time will tell if its working.
Didn't sleep well last night. My own fault for falling asleep after we took our Grandson back home. I only slept for an hour but hubby lost most of the afternoon and evening. He slept for 6 hours. Then went to bed and slept a further 7 hours. Still, it stopped him from moaning.
Usual dailies to be completed today. Downstairs almost completed. Havent started on upstairs yet.
Pork cooked in the slow cooker for tea tonight. A traditional roast that we should have had yesterday but fell asleep instead.
Onwards and forwards,
have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
