Dodgy fire doors - report him
Hope he loses his licence, business and livelihood.0 -
Half an hour ago I got a text from a friend who goes in the same pub. The landlord is asking customers for donations so he can pay for 2 fire doors and if he is helped he will let the smoking in the foyer continue so no one has to budge their lazy bums and go to the smoking shelter. I cant believe the nerve he has really.
Just stop giving him your money then.0 -
14 days is the norm for improvement notices, basically a comply or else letter detailing exactly what the fire brigade want.
I have a relative who is high up in the chain of command at one of the F & R authorotoes, things like this is his bug bear. You can in confidence ring the respective fire authority in your area and speak to or leave a message with the fire safety officer in that area. After a complaint is made that fire escapes are blocked etc they usually respond to that with an unannounced visit within a few days, if they see he's already had an improvement notice and hasn't acted on it they can shut him down there and then.
He won't necessarily need to fit panic bars as thumb turn latches are acceptable if the doors are unlocked during trading hours, on doors that require securing and need to be kept closed then push bars or push pads or even panic bolts can be fitted.
I myself maintain fire doors for a commercial contractor and work closely with several fire authorities and they don't have a problem with any of the above in the last paragraph that are used in the premises I look after.
Regarding the smoking - contact the local council and licensing dept they will come down on him like a ton of bricks - this bloke sounds like an accident waiting to happen !You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
Muckybutt this is just it he locks all the doors with people on the premises and allows smoking in the foyer with doors and windows locked this is my big concern.
I mean, apart from mentioning it on this forum.
It really can't be all that 'big a concern' as you have told us you intend to continue to use the place. And I thought all premises have to have at least one push bar door surely.0 -
I think he is the lease holder not the sole owner of the pub, so why has the brewery never been responsible for making sure the fire exits are up to the required standard?. As I mentioned before every other pub and public place I have been in had at least one push bar door how can the age of a building determine if it doesn't have to comply with safety regulations or not.0

When in an establishment, make sure you know where the exits are and stay in a position to be able to egress oneself, should the need arise. i.e. don't get pie eyed.
34 years on, rule still applies! Feet, use them!0 -
You should all shop each other and get free beer!0

The guy doesn't care about his customers' safety. I hope you never eat anything prepared in his kitchen!
Just vote with your feet. Go elsewhere. Plenty of pubs need your business!0
