My 4yo dd needs glasses - anyone think of any idea to make it seem more exciting?????

My 4yo dd has had the standard eye-test and needs corrective glasses. I'm not sure how she will react but we have normally found it helps alot if we say "that so-so does this or that" to get her on side - either her older cousin who she adores or a tv/cartoon character who she likes - the problem is her cousin doesn't wear glasses and we can't of any tv/cartoon characters who wear glasses...
So any of you good people got any ideas ??? :D
You should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an
"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs :p :rotfl:

I guess she's a bit young for Harry Potter, but maybe she's aware of him through her older cousin? Harry Potter is apparently helping to make wearing glasses 'cool' again!

I had a vague memory, so put 'wears glasses' into Amazon, and got this:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_b/026-0676189-1254833?initialSearch=1&url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=wears+glasses&Go.x=7&Go.y=8

Worth looking out for in the library, perhaps.

Peter Parker - Spiderman... tell him he can wear them when he's watching tv and reading, then when he's playing he can become spiderman by taking them off

Oh wait, I just remembered peter parker doesn't need glasses when he gets bitten by the spider.

In that case he can be superman!

    dd = dear daughter :o :rolleyes: :D

SHE doesn't know Spiderman or Superman either and unfortunately Cinderella, Ariel or any other princess/fairy type characters don't wear glasses...

Thanks Wendy :T :A I had thought about getting a book about it if I couldn't think of anything else and I've been meaning to join the library for ages so I think now would be a good time :T :T :T :D

Does she watch Doctor Who? My five year old son is always wearing a pair of pretend Doctor Who glasses.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

  • Do you know of another child who she goes to school/playgroup with who wears glasses and ask their parents how they dealt with this problem. Is she friendly with another child who wears glasses? Perhaps she could spend some time with them to influence and boost her confidence about glasses. If someone else is wearing them, it makes them more acceptable. I wore glasses from the age of 2 until 12, but I don't remember how I initially got on with them.
  • Big Chris on Roary the racing car does.

It is on on Channel 5 Milkshake on Saturday mornings (around about 9am, but you need to check that!)

How about getting her to choose the frames, if you find a couple of choices first!!

    Good luck
