IIRC, AML would only sell these to people who bought a proper Aston Martin?

No, not given away. They were originally meant for existing Aston owners to buy and use when it wasn't practical or desirable to use their proper Aston whilst still be able to be seen with the badge :rotfl:

(also, (probably more truthfully) to help Aston Martin meet emissions targets)
  • First and foremost, no chance in hell that I would ever have bought one, new or secondhand

Secondly though, if money is really no object to you and you prefer to drive rather than be driven then I can see a certain appeal to the car. There is an attraction to being in a high class cabin, cocooned in leather rather than plastic.

There is a gap in the market for a high end interior small car. A class, 1 series, A1 etc may well be nice cars and are more solid build than a Dacia but they arent just a miniature S class. Problem is that high end interiors have very high end costs
  • My boss had a Fiat 500 'Ferrari edition' courtesy car years back. Wouldn't have mind keeping one of them for the future, should hold it's money better than a Cygnet.

Bit like the Vanden Plas Allegro. Very nice interior but still an Allegro.

Sensibly, BL never called it the VDP Allegro, it was the Van Den Plas 1500.
