  • The worktops should cost about £800 for solid oak although you need a 1 meter wide worktop for the breakfast bar/peninsular, which might have to be especially ordered from somewhere as the widest I have seen available are 720mm wide.

A good price for a beige high gloss 1 meter wide 3 drawer pan unit should be around £325, to give you some idea on price for units.

    Hi all,

I just want to thank you all for all your help. After two trips to Magnet and IKEA, we now have a layout and quote, from IKEA, for a much bigger, better designed, more and better appliances, more worktop space and ore units than the howdens one...and all for just under 7k minus the worktops. We have sourced the oak worktops locally for £700. Will mean that I have to spend a couple of days putting the units together, but even with the 2k fitting costs on top of that means a 4k saving on what we would have paid, and a kitchen that we are far happier with.

I can't speak highly enough of the IKEA service. All in all very happy and 4k better off!

    Thank you all,

    Ben

Oh, and we can pay for the kitchen over two years at 0% interest so we can defer this large bill at a time when lots of big bills are coming in!

That's great. Are you able to show us the new design?
  • Hi, having worked for magnet in the passed I can tell you a Scavolini kitchen from Italy will be a far better choice than magnet. The units are far far better. They don't fill the kitchens with end panels that are never in " the sale" far more choice in the size of carcass, far more colour choice, Matt and gloss finishes. Some ranges have up to 150 colours to choose from. They will even make bespoke units. So no fillers or tray spaces. Been italian they can also be cheaper as they don't come from the " sale" culture. If you are unsure of them they are the biggest supplier of kitchens in Italy and are now coming to the UK.
