Kitchen experts advice required!

Hi there, we are renovating and the builder has quoted us 8k for kitchen plus 2k for appliances, excluding the fridge freezer. Not a big brand appliances, oak work tops, cheap end finish for the kitchen units. So 10k plus vat, then 2k for fitting...14k in total for this:

It seems a lot to me but I have very little knowledge...I'd be really grateful for any input from trade experts or people who have had their kitchen done recently.

Many thanks,

Ben

Hopefully that works a bit better!

  • Is there any reason for only having a 300mm larder when you have all that room to the left?

Sounds like a lot to me. But my kitchen was from MFI..

Can I ask about the cupboard near the window. What are you planning on putting up over window? Blinds?
  • Does seem a lot to me too. Paid that for German handleless design with 2 le mans units top spec bosch apliances, 30mm granite worktops and custom colored glass splashbacks. Probably more units too.

It depends in what the £8k is for.

Howdens are very expensive for Oak worktops.

Does the £8k include electrics, plumbing, plastering, tiling etc?

Try putting the same design into the Ikea online planner to get an idea on the price if you were to choose their kitchen. You will have to mess about with cabinet sizes and styles, but at least it will generate a price for you.

As for appliances, the Howdens range does have a bit of a bad name, if you look through other posts, on here. You would be better choosing your own, from AO.com or other suppliers. If John Lewis have items you like, they offer two years warranty, as well.

Thanks for all your replies, will try to address each point here...sorry was just putting the kids to bed!

The space to the left will be for table and chairs.

Cupboard by the window...yeah will be blinds there.

Electrics, plumbing, plastering, tiling are all seperate as the builder is charging for this as part of the whole job.

Vansboy, good idea, thanks, think I will also take a trip to Magnet tomorrow and see what they come up with.

I don't like the design. It's a huge space and it seems to have been designed with a view purely to getting out of the back door as quickly as possible.

The curved units cost a fortune and serve no purpose as there are no curves to reflect anywhere. No symmetry either. And a huge kitchen with a 400mm space between oven and hob, so you'll have to work on one side and can't put a baking tray down width ways. It should be easy in that space and using the biggest units possible to keep costs down.

Just worked out it's the integrated handle one, by looking closer. It is one of the more expensive ranges but I think the price is too high if we're talking purely units.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Thanks a lot for your thoughts Doozergirl, some good points you make there speaking as someone who has zero knowledge of kitchen design!

Will muse on those, just found out there's a Howdens showroom near us so are planning a trip there tomorrow to see what the range actually looks like

Howdens just shove as many boxes as they can into a set space and call it kitchen design.

Think about a bigger larder cupboard seriously I have two five hundreds so know one three isn't enough.
