I went on to say that there are significant savings to be made by either sticking to 360 (which obviously saves £300+ on new hardware) or moving to a system where you don't pay £30-40 per game and £30 just to play online (which obviously saves money in the long term (and equally obviously cannot be the PS4)).
I'm sorry if it wasn't obvious enough! Although if it doesn't make sense to you that £300 is a saving... could you spare £300, please? I'll put it to good use.
Thanks for the clarity, but I gave the subjective answer to the question, it wasn't seeking the alternative it was seeking the answer to am I better sticking with 360 OR going to XB1. The alternative you listed is available, but in this case is not really part of the question asked as there's the wildcard factor. We're dealing with someone who has one thing in mind - so the alternatives would be a major disappointment. Now not being funny chances are this is a case where Son has been chatting with friends, friends have all stated they'd be going XB1 which is the key factor.
From the perspective of someone who did sell consoles for years I wouldn't recommend alternatives in this case knowing the impact it would have. (Hence why I gave the line about you wouldn't wanna be the guy with one thing when everyone else has the other!) I've been out of the game a few years now but unless teenage mentality has radically changed in that timespan then it's sound advice.
I won't properly respond the the last part save to say I am in total control of the precise moment I wish to upgrade both my Playstation & Xbox offering. I however chose not to do so understanding there are other things I would like more, the advantage of having seen the steamy underbelly of games retail means I'm immune to their buy it now BS.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -
Errr... my initial post wasn't referring to your "subjective answer" at all. I was responding to the OP. I'm not sure why you think I was arguing with your post... ahhh, you have ifstar and captainhindsight on ignore? I see! No, I was just answering the OP's question. I understand your confusion now.
(Although I still don't understand why you'd complain that £300 being "the only saving you'll make" means saving £300 is not worth it.)
Didn't realise that the Halo Collection and Sunset Overdrive were racersPleased to hear that they'll be adding working multiplayer to the game within the next few months, though - and it's always nice to hear an apology from developers when we've spent £35 on a game that doesn't work. It shows us customers some respect. (A refund might have shown us more respect, but we can't expect basic consumer rights all the time, can we?)
Sunset Overdrive... a system seller? If you say so.Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.
Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -

I didn't claim that either of those games were 'new' or system sellers, only that in my opinion they were decent games exclusive to Xbox!
Yes, Halo MP has been a shambles, but I don't expect a full refund because I have managed to play quite a bit of multiplayer and have four full campaigns to work on when it's having a bad day.0 -

Everything about Sunset Overdrive confuses me. I don't understand why MS are/were pushing the game so hard aside from the fact it's Xbox Exclusive... and I'm not the only one who thinks this, everyone I play with is in the same mindset - why should we care about this game? No-one I play with thinks it's appealing enough to fork out money on it, even one guy who usually buys every big release and hammers the game to death, not even he got it.
From what I have seen of it, It'd get stale to me in about an hour - but then I am a very cynical gamer. For example, I hated the new Wolfenstein game so much I put it down after 30 minutes and haven't touched it since.Professional Data Monkey

I haven't been tempted by Sunset either, but IGN reviewers seem to love it, and I have a few friends who are really enjoying it aswell.
I think they have done a really good job of the movement and combat, so it's something I might revisit later on when I don't have so much to play, but at the end of the day not all games will appeal to all people.
Saying that, I get the impression they are shifting a lot of the Sunset bundles, but perhaps it's more to do with the white console than the game itself.
My biggest anticipated game now is The Division, but I'm really wary it's going to end up being a let down. I made the mistake of buying into the hype of Destiny, and whilst it's a beautiful game with really good mechanic, there simply isn't enough to do.0 -

Agreed on most points. I don't think I will ever get Sunset though.
When is The Division launched? I like the concept but Tom Clancy games tend to be a big let down for me in the past. Also a big draw to games for me is:- Is it any good and will I enjoy it?
- Are my friends getting it so I have people to play with?
With friends getting GTA for next gen over the next month (and hopefully, finally, heists), Destiny raiding, The Crew next week and Evolve in Feb, it's getting hard for me to want other games simply because I don't feel I will have the time to play them all and feel I'm getting my money's worth.
An example is Farcry 4 - love the look of it, won't have time to play it. I still have Shadow of Mordor, I'm only 25% in and don't have the urge to play it more than what I currently have on the go - I haven't touched Alien: Isolation since I bought it, and The Evil Within is still on the first level and haven't touched that since either.Professional Data Monkey

Yep. I'm wading through Halo MCC because I really enjoyed the campaigns, have a good friend base to play it with, and it's a LOT of content to get through.
I've got Forza Horizon 2 on the go aswell which is another massive game, and I still occasionally go back to Destiny for raids, but nowhere near as much as I used to. It's just a weekly 'going through the motions' on the raid, and I'm missing one piece of gear to hit level 30 and have energies and shards coming out of my ears, so have basically no motivation to do the daily/weekly grinds.
Can't bring myself to buy Destiny DLC as it seems way overpriced for a small amount of additional content, especially when the main game was already so bare. I heard they already announced a sequel in the works, but I'll definitely be giving that a miss.
I REALLY want Alien Isolation, but can't see me getting around to it any time before the New Year so will probably just hold out for a sale. Think I'm giving GTA V a miss. I replayed IV not long before it originally came out on 360 and think I burned out on it. Barely touched V on 360 and don't think I'm ready for it yet despite the XB1 version being seemingly vastly improved.
I don't think Division has a set date yet, just TBC 2015. I'd expect to see it before Summer though hopefully. Again, I think it needs a solid friend base to fully appreciate it, but I have a few friends who haven't yet upgraded and I think Division will be the game that finally brings my proper crowd to XB1. I really hope it isn't a let down.0 -
I am buying my boys an Xbox one for Christmas and am seriously having trouble finding a good deal with the Kinect, do they need it?
They play alot of games online with friends, mainly Minecraft and Call of Duty.
Also if they have a Xbox 1 and a friend has a 360 can they still talk to each other? If the friend has Minecraft on 360, but my boys have a 1 can the boys still play with their friend?
Any help would be much appreciated0 -

They probably don't 'need' Kinect unless they are intending to play Kinect based games.
Kinect offers a handy way to navigate around menus using voice controls, but is not in the least bit neccesary.
Until recently, the most handy feature was being able to say "Xbox Record that" and it would automatically record a clip of our last 30 seconds of gameplay. In November they introduced an update where you can get the Xbox to record a clip with a couple of button taps. It might be a bit intrusive if you wanted to record a clip in the middle of a multiplayer game, but it's a big cost for convenience.
In the long run, if you realise you've made a bad decision you can buy a Kinect separately anyway. I suspect there will be plenty of them floating around on the pre-owned market.
Edit: Sorry missed some stuff. Party chat does not work cross platforms, so no, someone on Xbox One can't chat with someone on 360. Same with games - Minecraft Xbox 360 and Minecraft Xbox One are two completely distinct games and they would not be able to play together unless they both had the same console.0
