Entering Competitions With "Sympathy Votes"

I tend not to enter the why should you win or nominate someone who deserves facebook comps unless it's a fun jokey/light hearted one - I just went to enter the LIDL facebook comp ending on sat and there are so many sad stories - It feels wrong to compete with my own/friends sad stories -comping for me is something that should be fun - my personal sad times are private and I don't want to share them for a piece of cheese or something along those lines!!!! or compete with other people's sad stories - it just makes me feel bad0

A very slightly different perspective. Back in the day I won tickets to the Olympics with hotel and spends, and couldn't go but asked Visa the company responsible if my friend who had recently been diagnosed with cancer could go. They were happy to agree and she said they had a lovely time.
Today I have been to her memorial service and there were pics of the event on the big screen I was so pleased that Visa had allowed her to go in my place and she was clearly having a great time.
A bit incoherent but perhaps sometimes people can deserve a prize because of who they are?
A huge thank you to all who post the comps and deals that make life so much fun!0 -
That was really sweet of you and them to make it happen. There are many stories of people getting to do once in a lifetime things when they are going through something so unfortunate and it is great for them and their families. With these competitions 'Why should you win?' though, you will find there will be countless people who are all going through really bad situations, how then do you decide who deserves it most when there is only one prize but 100+ people all writing about their troubles? I think it would be twisted to judge who has it the worst when it comes to illnesses and death and other sad situations. It's just so personal, I don't think it should be brought into competitions.
I think people deserve to get to fulfill their dreams and I love it when it happens but don't think people deserve prizes because of who they are in general. If everyone deserved a prize because of who they are then there would have to be millions of prizes because there is a ton of sadness in the world and I don't think that would work at all.
In your situation though, you won fair and square and there was no judging situations or using it as a way to win, it was really nice that they let you do that0 -
Agree with the above, and thought of this thread when doing the Perfume shop advent on FB, today's prize was to win a bottle of Angel so the question that went with it : makes you such an Angel?
I'm cringing at some of the answers all for a bottle of perfume, I'm sorry for anyone who's been through a tough time - but to use it purposely to try and gain an advantage for a competition just feels so wrong.0 -
exactly what i was on about in the advents chat0

Angels blowing their own trumpets! :A:
I just put something on the lines of 'I'm no angel, just like the perfume' - bet I don't win0
