:rotfl::rotfl: Brilliant ! I'd much rather read competition replies like that. I'm sure the promotors had a good laugh too :T

I only enter the "why should I win" comps if it's a random draw. The one where the best answer wins, I avoid like the plague. I have no doubt that some of the replies are genuine but also no doubt that some are just made up to try and win.

FWIW, I've had a traumatic childhood, I'm disabled etc, but I'd never use it to win a prize. That's just me though. I don't like getting sympathy. It makes me uncomfortable!

    Awesome, you deserved that win!

I am VERY live and let live. What you win is your business, it's all the luck of the draw.

However - I WILL judge you if you post cr*p like my grandad is dying, my sister has cancer etc etc. If you want a shi**y prize that much that you would either 1 - Prostitute your suffering - or - 2. Make stuff up - then, nopety nope nope. I get that people have hard stuff happening. I get that, I really do. And some people over share and that's their choice. And some of those people may be reading - and if you are, may your troubles lighten. Sincerely.

But, having been through suffering, having struggled..... I look at those people and think fluff you. Fluff you for trying to use that situation. This is how I see it. For every person out there who is GENUINELY in distress, who would GENUINELY be relieved by the comp win - there are a whole other bunch who would write anything to win a £20 Love2shop voucher.

Sod that. I hope the comp runners look at them and think the same way I do. I hope they aren't suckered. Because that's what it looks like. Like people are trying to play on emotions and use awful situations and, in my mind, in my view of fair play, that ain't on.

  • I agree, sometimes it is absolute nonsense :/ but I try not to judge.

Earlier this year I won a sympathy comp from Pets at Home. They were giving away 2 giant sock monkey dog toys. They said to comment on the post saying why your dog would like to win. Well my 13 year old boy had just had surgery to remove his eye and he really was feeling down. I shared his story and a photo of him with his one eye and loads of people commented saying he should win for being brave :) I wasn't going for sympathy, but he certainly got it.

He was one of the winners, and although he passed away about 3 weeks later, he absolutely adored that toy!
I just enter and forget...hoping to win something! :)

There have been a few threads on the subject. The one that sticks in my mind the most was one where somebody posted (on here) something about "I should win because my pet newt has shingles". If you search for newt and shingles, you should find it.

I can believe it. Problem is (if it is a problem - maybe it isn't?) that some people are just so nice themselves that they completely fail to believe that a very great many other people are not only not as nice but are in fact considerably nastier. Maybe I'm just too too cynical  but I don't believe 90% of the sob stories I read. Having said that I would have believed the earlier tale of the dog - but then most dogs are nicer than a lot of people! :rotfl:
