    I personally wouldn't engage anyone who cold-called me at all , even in the unlikely event I was actually looking for the service offered.
  • Thanks for everybody's input. In-laws haven't had any more calls so I think the scammers know they've been rumbled. They are still of course upset but FIL does acknowledge they've been silly.

    Valuable lesson learnt for them sadly.
  • Sorry; update. Those cheeky barstewards only called FIL again tonight! Despite FIL saying no to parting with more cash and telling them the police are now involved they didn't seem fazed!

    FIL needs to realise he can swiftly end any conversation by simply replacing the receiver. The more he engages with them, the more encouraged they will be.
