Typed out huge post but iPad crashed and lost it all
Does anybody know about companies that claim to be able to reclaim fees charged by other PPI reclaiming companies? Long story short, FIL has shelled out over £4k to a company for this service and after bring asked for a further payment has said no and is now getting harassed numerous times a day. FIL doesn't even know the full name of this 'supposed' company, the two phone numbers he has dont bring up anything on Google so believe they are VOIP and.....he paid the fees by cash via the post office to Dubai and India. Both men he spoke to were british though.
I got my DH to call the police today who have forwarded it to the fraud squad.
Apart from berating them for being so foolish, and of course contacting the police, is there anything else we can do?

No. The money is gone.
But they need to stop paying companies to reclaim anything further for them. They're likely to get further companies contacting them now.0 -

Me and DH are so shocked that they've been scammed so easily; they are normally quite savvy. We've already asked Virgin to put caller ID on their phone to monitor if the two numbers they have continue to call and harass them. One of the guys even told FIL to take out a loan to pay the final instalment, and get this, told him that he had phoned their bank to 'sort it out for them' Also one morning when they called FIL was taking MIL to the hospital so couldn't talk and later when they got home the guy called and said he had phoned the hospital to check that MIL was ok... it's turned quite sinister hence why as soon as they told us today we automatically called the police.0 -
This is disgusting, please keep us updated.0

Will do. It kept me awake a few times last night. Still can't understand how easily they fell for it. DH phoned them last night to check they were ok and they had been going through the paperwork and gave us a company name and address, but I couldn't turn anything up on Google, unsurprisingly.0

Some claims companies act fraudulently. Using advanced fee fraud for example. We see it many times when people post on here about up-front charges. Often the complaint reasons given are bogus (such as mortgage arrangement fees or brokers fees).
Once you get on a mugs list, you get your details passed to all sorts of scams. They are likely to be inundated for years now. All you can really do is make sure they know never to buy anything from any form of cold calling. No telephone, no postal, no email, no door to door. They are now known as easy marks.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Sorry for not being modern, what is FIL and DH?0

Had they even reclaimed PPI??
Post the company name and address here and others can look too - but they are unlikely to be genuine details.0 -

This is a new one on me !
So they will chase companies who have managed to obtain miss-sold PPI..
They will go after the charges applied at the time as long as you pay up front?
Give us the name and the phone number of these vultures..

I've googled it but it brings up nothing. The names given were a David Clark(e) and Michael (Mike) Jones; two surnames which are hugely common no less. They told my in-laws it was a new government initiative and that they could pull out at anytime with all monies repaid....hmm.
Edited to say that yes they had been successful reclaiming PPI and have used claim companies who charged fees, despite us telling them to go direct, which was their logic for thinking this was legit.0
