There is no way to scrape ice quietly! At least not the ice that I get.

The quiet methods are either damaging - deicer - or russian roulette - warm water.....

Buying a detached doesn't cost more exactly, you just need to invest more, but its also worth more at the end. Detached house prices I think will start to command stronger premiums as space becomes limited in the UK with rising populations.

I much prefer a detached as you dont have to consult on anything on anything... its all very straight line very little grey.

This is my house, that is yours.

Semi, just changing a tile on the roof could be a minefield.

Drives, I like garden between cars, no pranged doors off neighbours cars, etc.

Noise, Detached is great unless you have noisey kids, in which is still great as you don't annoy your nice neighbours either.

As for cars being started and left running in the frost thats just the modern world.

I really don't have a problem with it, unless they had unreasonable car, One of our neighbours has a ferrari, and keeps popping out in it, sometimes 3 times a day. Each time I hear it, I run to the window as its just sooo nice to see. A souped up corsa I wouldnt rush to see... and it would annoy me.

You're not in sales are you?

If not, perhaps you should be. :rotfl:

We are paying the £100k premium of moving into a detached! Worth every penny :)

wow that's expensive - we are moving into a detached house soon, and it is no more expensive than what some people want for their semi just round the corner.

I lived in a flat for five years, then moved to detached and would never go back to attached again unless I had absolutely no choice. Every time someone adjacent was moving at the flats, I'd worry that someone noisy would move in.

Having said that, at our last detached house (now on our second), a neighbour started playing music in their garden all day, every day, on summer weekends. So it doesn't guarantee you peace and quiet!

Relatively few detached houses are being built now. A lot of modern estates are townhouses because they can cram a lot more of them in. Similarly, new-builds have very little parking. I also think that detached houses with good driveways will be in demand in the future, when less of the housing stock consists of them.

Just as the world of burglary was revolutionised by the invention of cordless angle grinders and power saws, so modern estates will be impacted by the new generation of bluetooth, rechargeable, self- powered speakers, which nicely amplify music stored on devices like i-phones.

It's already possible to get 15watts RMS out of a device as small as a soft drinks can, and the makers helpfully provide sockets so that owners can chain them in series to produce even greater volume. It's all a far cry from the old Dansette in the corner of the siitting room!

    Nowhere is entirely safe.
