Car Hire - Salt Lake City

Hi. I'm shocked at the cost of car hire at SLC airport. I'm sure I paid £340 for a standard SUV at LV this year for 14 days, yet SLC is coming up at £590 for the same company, Alamo, for only 12 days. I expect LV has a lot most traffic and competition, but still...
Does anyone have any tips as to best rates? Also, are any companies at SLC clearly better than others, such as Alamo was meant to be at LV?

Car rental prices at the big 4 rental companies in the US have doubled for some locations in the last 3 weeks for dates next summer. I'd be willing to bet that they will come down nearer Christmas. The only broker that doesn't seem to have inflated prices at the moment is Budget so you might want to give them a try if you can't wait.0

That's interesting, Spud work. Maybe they're just doing a Tesco and doubling prices before a half price sale. I'll wait and see, as the current prices are ridiculous.0

This thread is worth a read - http://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=840070 as it shows how much prices have increased of late in several areas across the USA.
When I started looking for an intermediate SUV in Denver for a month next summer they were £700, prices now start at £1300 for the same car and same dates. I know that the pound has weakened against the dollar, but not to the extent that prices have increased. Budget is the only rental company in denver that hasn't increased its prices, but I'm not sure what is available at Salt Lake.

spud_work / wdw2003 I 've made a Full Size SUV booking for July 2015 that is ridiculously cheap from a Texas airport - but the prices are also coming through for Utah,, Arizona, Louisiana, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri & Illonois as well.(correct at 23.12.14). It doesn't seem to work for Nevada & Florida and only for some California pickups
I suspect that its a computer glitch, so I don't want to post it online in case the glitch gets fixed/closed.
I've booked using it and I've got the hire voucher in my grubby paw - I've not had to misrepresent anything, its just a remarkable oddity.
If anyone drops me a PM, I'll happily give you more details and send you the link.
The glitch is still active as another MSEer has also taken advantage of it !0
