They hadn't disagreed to paying by bank transfer. Why would you be pretty annoyed if you were the buyer?

I agreed but said I would want payment by bank transfer.

After numerous days of emails, he decided he didn't feel comfortable

Maybe it's the way you tell 'em!
  • Yes, that's not quite what you inferred.

Thanks all. Yes, the item can be sent via courier which is what I had intended to do, and had already agreed to do this with the buyer.

As others have said, if I go down the NPB route, there is a chance he will pay via PayPal which I don't want. I need the money to pay for repairs to my wifes car following a bump, so need the money quick, which is why I requested collection only.

Well I'm confused now. so this isn't a collection only item then, it is to be couriered? So why keep saying it was?

In that case you need to accept that by using eBay you have likely signed yourself up for a 21 day hold on the PayPal payment, so either decline, pay your fees and list it elsewhere, or take PayPal, ship it securely and with full tracking and insurance and wait for your money.

You should have stuck with Gumtree and avoided half these problems.

Yes, that's not quite what you inferred.

The buyer had initially agreed, to the point where he'd asked for my bank details and I had provided him with them. Then after a couple of days, he dediced he wasn't comfortable.

That's fine if there's no ebay protection, and I completely get that. As I said, there's no problem if he didn't want to go ahead with it, it's just that he agreed to do it, cost me £42.75 in the process and now is backing out again and I have no ability to relist.

Why don't you try reading the OP properly? I listed it on eBay as collection only but gave the original Gumtree buyer the option of making an offer if he wanted to.

I advertised a high value item (£400) for collection on Gumtree and an interested buyer contacted me about it asking if I could post it. I agreed but said I would want payment by bank transfer.

You still have the option as I suggested of trying a mutual cancellation, then relist on 1st December.

    I did.

Your OP said this was a collection only item. Then suddenly in a later post you said "
Thanks all. Yes, the item can be sent via courier which is what I had intended to do, and had already agreed to do this with the buyer. "

So I don't think it is me being confusing.

Thanks, looks like I'll have to try that but if he rejects the mutual cancellation, I'm still out of pocket £42.75.

...and became uncomfortable, which can only have been due to paying by bank transfer - hence his inference of a possible scam. So, as I said, why would it going via eBay make a bank transfer any more comfortable?!

At the end of the day, I merely offered him the option of bidding for the item on ebay (making it clear in doing so that he would still need to use bank transfer). It was his decision to put the best offer in, not mine.
