Say if someone has defaults and poor credit rating on their file, does that mean you get rejected by any bank when applying for credit cards?

There are credit cards out there targeted specifically for people with a poor credit history eg Vanquis, Aqua etc which you'd have more luck in receiving one of those than a mainstream bank backed credit card.
You might not automatically get rejected for a bank backed cc but they are a lot stricter in their acceptance of those with a poor credit history. It may help if you already bank with them as most banks have an internal lending criteria but it's no guarantee.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards.
