Changing networks- how do I transfer numbers in my current handset to new one?

Hello all!

I'm looking for a little advice.

I'm about to have my mobile number ported from Vodaphone to Orange, after deciding to change contracts.

I'll get a new handset and, obviously, a new sim card.

Could anyone tell me if it is possible (and how you do it) to transfer across all the telephone numbers stored on the Vodaphone sim card and my current handset to the new Orange sim card and new handset provided by Orange.

I'm hoping I won't have to copy the telephone numbers onto paper and re-programme them into the new handset!!!

I'm grateful for any help in advance.

Put the old sim card in the new phone, copy contacts from the sim to the phone.
Then put the new sim card in the phone and copy contacts from the phone to the sim.

Does this method work even though the numbers are currently in a Vodaphone sim card and handset and I'm transferring to an Orange sim card and handset?
