My Renault Kangoo car is now with the dealer because of internal fault with the front panel dashboard (it comes on and off at random) and break pedal switch (the electrical bits basically) . It's got 33000+ miles on it as I've been mostly driving it around the city for past 8+ years ago. I did have it checked by a garage who told me that only the dealer could solve the problem. So, the costs will be to the tune of £700+

It's a registration CA04 with full MOT till next April and Insurance till September 2015. Should I bother spending £700+ and then try to sell it asap?

Part of me wants to leave it with the dealer who will only charge me the investigation fee of £49.99 and be done with it. I have been thinking about leasing a car but don't see anything below £100 per month (I don't need a car/van any longer as I'm not using my wheelchair any longer; a small hatch back would do)

Any thoughts or ideas I have not thought of?

Fit a good used part and save a fortune.

Some of the independant specialists are far cheaper than main dealers
and some have a greater knowledge also.

  • If you do decide you want to lease, you can get a VW Up that works out about £90 a month over three years. 5,000 miles a year, which seems plenty going by your existing car and 4.2p a mile over that.

I don't have any affiliation with the company, it was just a deal I posted on HUKD.

    Elaborate please......

Many electrical faults can be traced back to a car battery that's about ready to expire.

I've had two new batteries in mine over the space of 6 years (unfortunately the first replacements life was considerably shortened when the alarm ran the battery flat over night).
The first sign of a failing battery on my car is the dashboard(dials etc) fails to work at all for about 1 week before the car finally refuses to start.

The battery is about 1 1/2 - 2 years old.
A couple of months ago the clock started displaying incorrectly then one day, fortunately very close to home, I couldn't see the gears display nor the mileage & clock display on the dashboard (scary!), yet, the gears work and the car starts and runs normally. The headlights and brake lights did work (phew!) but the dashbord display unit was not lit (I did have ALL the fuses checked and none went). Strange enough, though, the dashboard lights do come on randomly.

How much would I realistically get if I repaired it and sold it?
There are some scratches on one side (a long one :o ) and a dent above the left front wheel
  • Just to say I have a focus, when I got it the dash would randomly turn off. They found that there was a dry joint somewhere in there, took the dash off, posted it to a company "down" in England, they re-soldered the joints, everything back together, and touch wood - the dash has worked fine since!

I think it got sent to http://www.clusterrepairsuk.co.uk/repairlist - but I am not sure, and I have no affiliation with that co.

    Thanks for that :)
I've not yet called the dealer as I needed a couple of days to work out the finance and gather as much information as possible.
Since the car has a pretty low mileage (33318), considering its age, and is still in good conditions, save for a dent (easily sorted by someone who has stronger hands than mine and the right tools that I don't have :o ) and a couple of scratches, it has a pretty decent 'salvage' value.
I'll get some repairs done and put it up for sale asap!

However, I found a website for parts, http://www.1stchoice.co.uk/, and got a few quotes in my Inbox which are far, far, below the price of the panel quoted by the Renault dealer of £433.23
(unless I looked for a different part--I'll check again....)

Just to say this might work, but you might have to get a Renault dealer to come and see you and program the dash to the car - at least that's what I am told about fords!
