Breakdown cover on Nationwide FlexPlus any good?

Hello

I have just opened a FlexPlus account. The breakdown cover is not AA. I understand they don't repair at the roadside and just tow the car to one destination. It sounds extremely basic.

Anyone used the FlexPlus Breakdown and Assistance cover it? How was it?

Where does it say they don't repair at the roadside and will tow the car to one destination?

The breakdown cover is provided by LV insurance which owns Brittania Breakdown who do indeed repair cars at the roadside.

Where have you got the notion that the cover is basic and that they don't repair at the roadside from?
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.
  • I got the info when i opened the account in branch. Thanks for clearing it up, I was thinking of taking extra cover. Maybe i got the UK and Europe cover mixed up?
  • The FlexPlus cover is actually a pretty complete service. I wouldn't take out any additional cover.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

I have a Flexplus account and have used the breakdown service. I could not fault it. We were driving for a day out from Cambridge to Warwick Castle and the car broke down. I called them and they were very professional and arranged for a breakdown truck to come and tow us. We were given the choice of being taken onward to our destination or to be taken home. We were about 2 hours away from home and they towed us all the way home, once home they offered to take the car to a local garage too. Excellent service which I am happy to pay £10 a month for (along with the other benefits)
I have nothing but praise for Nationwide and their brilliant Flexplus account.

Seconded. My misses and I dont live together (yet should be moving in january) and we used to pay £10 (net) a month to Halifax for similar benefits each. Nationwide we got a joint account and for £10 between us we get all this. On top of that we still have halifax account which pays us £5 a month instead now so we use that to pay nationwide!!

If this wasnt enough because of being a flex account holder rather than having a 3 year fixed mortgage we got a 4 year one offered to us on the same rate as 3 years!

Its such a good account even my parents went and got one and they never move banks. Even when their offering money
  • Britannia Rescue generally use agents rather than their own vehicles. They are normally pretty quick to arrive and will usually turn up with a pick up that can take you home. The only time I recall that they didn't we were using the at home service.

They also got somebody to me in Germany once with no problem - although the person spoke no English but then I was in his country.

I have a basic no frills account with the Nationwide which I let my daughter use, I put pocket money in there for her. I only opened the account a few months ago, having left the Nationwide a few years back because of the Faster payments mess amongst other things I think that they have since improved no end.

The new Flexplus account seems to be very good, as does the mobile banking app. I was tempted to go back to the Nationwide but looking at everything I still think that Barclays has more to offer.

The Barclays mobile banking app is much better than the Nationwide one, it allows you to do more. Features such as allowing you to call them from the app without the need for further identification are brilliant. You can also cancel lost/stolen cards through the app and there is also the mobile pinsentry which is genius. The Barclays app logs off as soon as your screen times out whereas the Nationwide one does not so there is a security issue there.

The Barclays iPad app is first class, it is the complete package in every way. Less important features such as the personalised debit card are nice too especially if you have more than one current account. Barclays branches are more technologically advanced than the Nationwide ones. I also found that Nationwide statements were not as detailed as the Barclays ones which list cash withdrawals with a location which is useful.

Barclaycard offers more choice of credit cards than the Nationwide and the cashback offers are more generous. The Barclaycard mobile app is also first class.

I am not saying that the Nationwide are bad but they have some catching up to do if they want to compete with some of the bigger institutions.
