simzany, is your exchange copper and/or fibre Multicast enabled? This is required on both or either type of BB. You can check that here -

Its not just down to speed of the line, you would need multicast for TV, I'm not sure how common that is on ADSL
I look after an account that is in a large block of flats. Fibre is widely available in surrounding streets, but not in the block of flats. "Copper multicast" is enabled at the exchange, per the BT Wholesale checker that VisionMan has linked to, and speeds are around 17Mbps.
So it fits the criteria- fibre unavailable at address, speed above 6.5Mbps, copper multicast enabled- and indeed, the standard BT Broadband pre-check confirms in my case, that BT Sport (standard definition) can be ordered with "TV Essential" or "TV Starter".0 -

That's what I was alluding to by "in some circumstances", littleboo, but I don't know what factors determine whether copper multicast is enabled at an exchange.

Defo go back to BT. But not India (useless).
Ring 150 and after listening to a short audio message say 'Get BT Sport' and you will be put through to 1 of 3 UK call centres who know their stuff. Tell them what you want and you'll get an answer.0 -
Hello?
Did this thread just die a death without finding out what happened?0 -

Sorry slow reply guys. Twice ive called and hit a brick wall.
One said as above, speed high enough to standard definition but the exchange is not enabled for bt sport through copper line, I pointed them to the ADSL checker website and they were confused as said they had been told not available. But Since fibre is available I must upgrade.
Next time got similar advice but a nice advisor who put me through to his manager who appreciated my scenario but Limit to what he can do as tech support tho. Put me through to UK services.
I frankly explained the scenario, spoke about all the technical data people here kindly supplied me and she went away for ages to speak to manager. Said physically can't put me through on copper but would give me an offer to upgrade to infinity for just £4 per month extra. Said no but no thanks for now, seems though the best outcome I could hope for.
The party line seems to be as you guys explained ie if you have fibre available to you, must take it for BT sport on TV, otherwise make do with the app only. I really did think playing the loyalty card, and with this knowledge and I don't need the infinity speed for anything else but BT sport etc I might get somewhere but alas. Thanks for everyone's help0
