Poor signal on o2 all of a sudden + problem with S4

I am looking for some advice on 2 separate problems with my phone (I don't think they are linked but who knows).
The first problem occcured after I dowloaded the Samsung 4.4.2 update - my wifi went crazy and the icon would 'grey out' so I couldn't switch on or connect to wifi. Since this happened I have had to restore my phone to factory settings about 10 times in order to connect to any wifi. I haven't connected to any other wifi except my home one for over 3 months because as soon I connect to something else (e.g. my mum and dads wifi or free cloud wifi) and they try to connect back to my home wifi....the wifi button greys out and i have to factory reset. I take it this is a problem with actual Samsung rather than o2 who I am contracted with or Phones 4U where I got the phone.
Along with this I have noticed that my mobile internet connection and general signal has decreased loads. I have bad connection at work and this has always been the case but lately I can be walking around town or at home and get no signal or mobile internet signal. In some cases I have a full signal bar but it won't allow to send a text message?
It's really annoying and I would like to know if I have any grounds to cancel my contract with O2. And how I go about this considering the problems with Phones 4 u!!

Reads as a poor downloaded update .Any factory reset just restores that download .
You don't say how you updated OTA or Kies .
Worth connecting phone to Kies and see if a later update is available .
O2 is not WiFi you have zero grounds to cancel a contract .
Did O2 supply the phone itself or P4U who would be the vendor under SOGA .
As you have updated and that appears to be the problem i would suggest a Samsung service centre .
