My new desktop came with 2 TB hard drive which contains the operating system (windows 8)and 32 GB SSd and I am wondering what will be the best use for this small SSD? I read somewhere that using it for ready boost could damage it !!plus I dont need ready boost as the system has 16GB of memory and it is quite fast...for now!!

It's normal to put the OS on the SSD and data on the other hard drive.
Thinking about it I'm not sure 32GB is big enough so probably best I !!!!!!

but the OS is on the normal HD and I have not been given the windows disc so how do i do that?0

I edited my post as you were posting. I don't think the SSD is big enough

I had a 64GB SSD in my PC just for the OS and programs, and a separate hard disk for data, but the SSD filled up too quickly and I had to replace it with a 120GB SSD.0

My Windows 7 partition is 27GB on its own so I'd say 32GB is pretty much useless. You could probably use it for a page file but with 16GB RAM it wouldn't see much use. I paid £30 for a 64GB SSD recently for a netbook so it isn't even worth the effort of selling.0

Some Chromebooks currently come with a 16GB SSD and nothing else ! How much of that would Chrome OS take up ?0

Anyone ever sit down and think how an operating system got to be 20gbs. It's just nuts. It's an operating system.0

not too much, but it doesn't leave room for that much else...........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Putting the OS on the SSD is a bit of a waste of time, you want programs on the SSD, games, etc.... Anything that needs to be that little bit faster.
The best way to keep the OS fast, is to have ONLY the OS on one HDD or SSD, programs/software/games on an SSD and general storage on a large HDD.
Even just creating a 100GB partition for just the OS will keep things running quickly, as long as the OS isn't sharing an MFT (master file table) with everything else.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

It's probably used as a cache. My laptop has a 500GB HDD and a 24GB SSD which is used as a cache drive, and it does make it pretty speedy.
