Hanging a heavy living room mirror

I would probably use longer screws than two inch.0

If you really want hooks,I'd go for sleeve anchors with a hook head rather than screw in hooks into a wall plug, like these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sleeve-Anchor-Hook-Bolt-M6-Bolt-M8-Shield-X-45Mm-Length-Yzp-Pack-Of-2-/360603199673
But I'd be inclined to just use a thunderbolt fixing with a large washer on, or screw and wall plug but i much prefer thunderbolts.0 -
How heavy is heavy?
In our previous home I hung a very heavy mirror (maybe 20 kgs) on a solid brick internal wall.
It had a chain rather than a rope.
I like to over engineer things for safety so I drilled two holes at about a 30 degree downwards angle into the wall and used two large and thick (4 inch or so) screws and rawlplugs, leaving enough sticking out to properly support the chain.
It was overkill but it cost very little and I knew that mirror was unlikely to fall off the wall onto the settee below it.
If the rope on your mirror is almost full width, then you can use two hanging points. Make sure the rope is securely attached to the mirror at each end.0 -
It wasnt strength of more than the screw i was looking for , it was the hook part to stop it ever `sliding off`
An alternative is something like this which I've used in the past to hang heavy pictures and mirrors.
