in Water bills

Hello everyone. Can anyone help.
I had severntrent on my door yesterday as there is a problem in nearby river, some dishwasher water!!!
Happily it is not me but, I didn't know my RAIN water goes to river. It comes down pipes into a gulley off to a drain in the back field then the river...
But I heard somewhere you don't pay if your water goes to the river?
Is this correct?
I have been paying over £160 per year for RAIN water on my bill...
Is there anything I can do??
Thanks

Yes - go onto the ST website and fill in the form requesting exemption from Surface Water Drainage charges which you'll get if ALL your surface water goes straight to a soakaway and not into any of the sewers (that includes run-off from your drive & pathways as well as your gutters & downpipes)Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

You don't pay the Surface Water Drainage(SWD) element of charges if none of your surface water from gutters, gardens etc enters the sewerage system.
However you have to claim relief from this charge yourself.
I am puzzled why you pay £160 a year for 'rainwater'.
These are the charges for 2014/15 for Severn TrentTable 8: Property type surface water drainage for household premises
Type of premises Charge £ per year
Detached house (including link-detached): 94.73
Semi detached house 63.20
Other household premises 31.540 -

Have checked bill we pay £66 per six months so £132 per year...
our rain water from house gutters goes in a pipe then out into the filed, which then goes to the stream onthe other side of fieldat the end of the back garden. does this count
our water doesn't go in main pipe and off to wherever, only our sewerage go into pipes on the road.
We don;t live in a town so streams and rivers are all around us0 -

£132 is paid for what? How does it appear on your bill?
As said in my previous post the Severn Trent charges for 'rainwater' i.e. surface water drainage are:Table 8: Property type surface water drainage for household premises
Type of premises Charge £ per year
Detached house (including link-detached): 94.73
Semi detached house 63.20
Other household premises 31.54
That charge appears on your bill as Measured Drainage Band xx
Can you copy down exactly what appears on your latest bill.0
