Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has bought any of the following on a private prescription recently and where from and the cost please?
Malarone, Doxycycline, Lariam Malaria tablets.
Need to sort out a supply for 3 weeks but need to tell nurse which ones I want!

The cost shouldn't be your primary concern, that should be which is the most approriate prophylaxis for the area that I'm travelling to. Only if there are equally effective options should cost be a consideration. I can't advise as it's over 5 years since I bought mine (4 months supply of Doxycycline) but you should confirm exactly how much you do need, as some need to be taken for a period before and after being in the malarial region.0

Thanks nurse advised that any of them three are OK for area going to all with similar effectiveness. The prescription will say the length of visit so I assume the pharmacy will advise the number required. Just trying to establish if anyone has purchased any from a reliable source recently.0 -
When I needed some earlier in the year, my practice nurse advised that Asda pharmacy was the cheapest in the area. Also, advised that Morrisons charge £8 on top for dealing with private prescriptions.
I went with her advice, but didn't check out prices myself.0 -

£8 for dealing with a private prescription seems to be money making. After all we are paying the full price and its not subsided by the NHS. can you remember what you paid please and for how long? Thank you.0 -
Travelled to Brazil in September. Practice nurse recommended Malarone and we bought the cheaper version of this from Asda. £1 per tablet and no prescription required. Hope this helps.0

booked it on line from DrFox (reputable, registered with CQC) and got the tablets in a few days through the posts. Excellent service at cheapest price. I went for Doxycycline as cheaper and didn't care taking it longer. All I had to say is that we had to make sure to eat before taking it as the day I forgot, I felt very sick until I did put food in my tummy.0

Have a look at the side effects too. I've only had malarone but one of the others makes you more likely to sun burn (I'm very fair skinned and can burn with a high sun factor) so I ruled it out along with the bad dreams it could give.
I bought generic malarone online, don't recall the company but they issued the private prescription (an online consultation of a few questions) and then sent them out the same day.0 -

I used several pharmacies in the past like Medcare2go and DrMatt for prescription medicines. Prices are almost the same, it is more a matter of service. Especially the delivery service.0

You need to choose the pills that are right for you, given your medical history. Doxy is cheap but can increase your sensitivity to sunburn. Lariam is fine for more than 90 per cent of people but can cause nightmares or worse in some... and malarone is horribly expensive.
These are the things you need to discuss with your doctor before you start worrying about cost.0
