I have a Nexus 5 and have just installed Android 5.0 Lollipop(I was previously on KiKat)

I find that now my phone contacts are all mixed up with my email addresses

I have to sift through all the email addresses to find an individual contacts to ring, it’s a real pain:mad::mad:
(previously on KitKat where only Contacts and their telephone numbers displayed )

Is there an easy way to display numbers only in the dialling App?

Thank you in anticipation

  • I'm sure it was like this on KitKat as well, if you store the contacts in Google anyway. I just type a couple of letters and the contact I want soon appears. I would think that you can install a third party contacts app and separate numbers from email addresses

No it was not like previously on KitKat. All the apps I have tried are the same as they just mirror the installed one.
I used your tip and type a few letters but I feel this should not be necessary.

    Ta for replying
  • Are you in the dialler or contacts app? Both mine show lists of names and no numbers or email addresses (until I press them)

I am in the installed 'dialler' app, the one with the phone icon.

Names are shown, a tap brings up/dial number

Some of the names are bringing up email addresses which I don't want in a Dialler App:mad:

I noticed this too. The dialler app has also added a host of email only contacts so when I click on them its just an email address and no phone no.

Doesn't make sense to me TBH. Its a dialler app so put numbers in it. If I want to email I will use the email app!

Also they have put all of my emails in the Gmail app which I don't like either.

OT but Ballyblack, are you experiencing poor battery life? Mine was bad already but Lollipop has made it almost unusable.

Battery life is about the same. I uninstalled a load of Apps and I found this helped battery life

You can use whichever email app you like. It's not an iPhone

I never said I couldn't. I said that Google removed the email app and added other email accounts to the Gmail app as part of the 5.0 update.

Simplest option would probably be to create a "Phone Contacts" group in Google Contacts and have the phone set to only display those.

I've been set up like that since Android 2.1

Finally got a work around which is a bit better.

I put a 'star' against most of the phone numbers I use, thus making them 'favourites'.

This way they are displaying in 'Speed Dial' for quick access.
