I don't think it's a pyramid scheme, they work differently, most people lose and the ones at the top get it all. It's no different from a bank offering you £50 to get a mate to sign up for a current account, or an offer I saw recently, get one mate to sign up and get £20, second mate gets you £30, three mates gets you £50 to make £100 total. The only difference with this is you can choose your prize, getting 4 mates to sign up gets you a nintendo ds, or I think it's 18 for a ps3. Plus the main point is you don't have to give them a penny. There is usually a choice of offers, some cost money, some don't, just go for the free options. The offer I chose was to sign up for an online casino.. you had to deposit £10 or something, but I just withdrew it straight away.0

Pyramid schemes, lottery based pyramid schemes, Ipod bidding schemes etc
The legality of these schemes is questionable, yet the ethics isn't. These schemes fly in the face of MoneySaving and whether illegal or not I don't want them on the site. Any scheme which offers a prize/reward/cash for you queuing up and referring other people is not permitted on this site and will be deleted. Fair enough, I will let the mods delete my post if it breaches the rules, I was only answering someones question, I didn't post to advertise the site or my referral link. I am completely baffled by that statement, there is no difference between this and my example of a bank offering £50 to get a mate to sign up for a current account, which martin posts about often enough. The only difference is this goes through a third party who make more than the cost of the freebie. "Ethically" identical.0

I had one of those emails yesterday and then a different one today. Dreadful memory but I think the one today was for a free phone!!
I just deleted both. Does opening the email to read the contents alert the sender that the address is active or is it only if you click on a link? (which I didn't do)0 -
Just reading an email will not alert the sender - unless you use a crap email client that does not block remote images, the sender can be alerted (i.e. if opening an email in your email client can load images that are on the internet rather than just contained within the email itself, then you need to set your client to block remote images).
It is possible to "request receipt" when sending email.. If the sender does this you will probably get a pop up when you read the mail asking if you want to confirm receipt of the email, clicking yes will alert the sender - ensure you do not have your email client set to automatically confirm receipt.
If you didn't understand any of that, stop using outlook express and start using Mozilla Thunderbird.0 -

Thanks ianh11 for the advice. I get my emails through BT/Yahoo so the graphics/images are blocked. I must check but I don't think I have 'automatically confirm receipt' as their spam filter is fairly good (I hope). I had another two today so I may just keep deleting!
Thanks again!:T0 -
