Phone line rental increases

Options
I'm with Talktalk for both internet and phone.

Last year I paid a £125 lump sum for valve line rental.

This time around they charging £172, hell of a price hike.

I assume BT are passing the cost of the fibreoptic roll out on the the ISPs to pass on to the customers.?

Retail prices are increasing... wholesale costs by Openreach have pretty much stayed the same over the past few years (or went down!)

The price rise you are seeing from TalkTalk is nothing to do with BT.

So the price hike is basically Talktalk trying to boost profits ?

They are in the business to make money. :)

But I would imagine running costs, staffing, training, building rent etc etc will contribute also.

For which they rely on loyal customers without whom they don't make any £££££s.

Which they've had to fund each year to date and 37.6% (edited from 28%) increase in one of their products is extravagant in my opinion.

Talk talk line rental isn't going up by 28%. it is going from £15.99 (I think) to £16.70. The line rental saver is a discounted price on the product and not the actual price and any discount is not a right but a bonus and will change greatly over time, just as any offers and discounts do.

The line rental saver with talk talk is due to go up from the end of this month to £180.36 which is still a saving of £20.04 over the year.
  • My apologies for the error above, its not a 28% increase, its a 37.6% increase.

Last year I paid a Value Line Rental lump sum off £125, a saving, Talktalk claimed, of nearly £50 compared to 12 month payments.

I've now been quoted £172 for Value Line Rental to save 10% over the year - rather poor.
  • This is a money saving forum, so saving £20.04 in a year over the normal cost is still a saving. you could save more if you wanted to by taking up one of the cash back offers and switch provider.

What you paid last year gave you a £50 saving on the regular price, this year there isn't as much of a saving on the regular price but there is still a saving. If your not happy with the £20.04 saving, talk talk aren't forcing you to pay it.
  • I actually posted to MSE to make others aware of what Talktalk are now offering and to possibly get leads from folk presently using alternative ISPs for better deals.

This, as far as I'm aware, is the function of the MSE website.

It is the function of MSE web site I believe yet, rather than ask for what they actually want - ie possible leads for alternative ISPs, people just post what is, in essence, a pointless moan.
  • ref: a pointless moan

    I'm baffled by the remark.
