It is indeed. And if you're going to place your X on the basis of energy policy, mine won't be going to the party that has, in opposition, guaranteed higher bills by foolishly announcing they'd freeze bills well in advance of the election.
Wholesale prices are falling, and thanks to that idiotic statement energy firms are keeping their prices high until the current uncertainty is over. Huzzah!0 -

To the other that's gone to the ombudsman, they wont make them do anything any differentDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0 -

I do understand there are many things to do when moving into a new property. I would, though, always check that details about the energy, including meter readings when you take over, are passed to us.
With new builds, the builder/developer or their agents often pass meter details to us. They sometimes do this in blocks or individually depending on the size of the development. Occasionally, the details they give us aren't always spot on.
Not saying this is the case here but I've come across instances where we've either not been told of a change or given the wrong details by third parties.
Once we've received the right details, we'll send a Welcome Pack with information about the account. This includes the tariff, prices and any discounts.
Unless we're told differently, we'll put customers on to our standard tariff. This may not necessarily be the cheapest but it doesn't have any exit fees or tie-ins. This leaves customers free to change supplier at any time without penalty.
I also understand the shock of receiving an unexpected bill. I know you've paid part of this but we'll be happy to talk to you about setting up a payment arrangement to spread the balance over a longer period.
If you set up a Monthly Direct Debit, we can include your ongoing usage too. Might ease things going forward.
A Monthly Direct Debit means lower daily Standing Charges too. Not much help with past bills, I know, but could make a difference in future.
I'm speculating a bit here baggysails and sorry if I'm off beam but hope it's of interest.

What is that even supposed to mean?
They can only offer, they can't just move you to another tariff without your consent! The customer still has a choice, even if they choose to pay more than needed.

Pagett seems to believe that it means the companies will simply force customers on to what they deem to be the cheapest tariff, whether they want it or not. Not happening.
The post was more of a pathetic jab at David Cameron any way. Which is totally redundant as most people already know the man is full of excrement.
All pointless arguing anyway. The OP didn't bother to do anything about sorting out their utilities and are now paying the price. Something DC said and did nothing about has no connection to this post.0 -

Surely not even you would decide who you wnated to govern you based on a single policy of that party?
What I am demonstrating here is the ongoing failngs of the current goverment to abide by the commitments they make.
In fact, even the Speaker of the House appeared totally dissatisfied, and in an extraordinary attack on the present government (regarding their latest U-turn on the commitment to have a vote on the European Arrest Warrant)... Most of us think that a commitment made is a commitment that should be honoured...
It may be the sort of thing that some people think is very clever, but people outside of the house expect straightforward dealing. And they are frankly contemptuous, and I use the word advisably, contemptuous of what is not straight dealing.0 -

Because it was a slip of the tongue, he made a mistake in the heat of the moment. Energy firms were briefed of this before it was announced.
He was supposed to say 'tell customers of the cheapest tariff' not 'give customers the cheapest tariff'.
As he is PM and the subject is a vote winner he didn't want to admit the mistake so just ignored it hoping it would go away.
As expressed above you can't move someone on to the cheapest tariff without their consent as you will lock them into cancellation fees.
Suppliers are now providing a personalised quote on the front page of each bill, annual statement and price increase letter telling customers on if they could save money by swapping tariffs. The onus is still on the customer to start the switch though.0 -
