I opted out of the open electoral register, but having searched the scam site, I have managed to find all my details. I will be filing a complaint.

I would tend to agree with the posters who say that the info is not from the electoral roll. My details are on there, as are those of my ex. My children's details are not, and they have been opted out since they became eligible to vote (within the last 5 years). My ex and I, on the other hand have only been able to opt out since 2002 (iirc) along with everyone else. It's not from the current electoral roll.

    It's only a game

All I can say is that the website is operated by a company called Caja Data Espana Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales; although its registered office at 145-157 St John Street is merely the address of a company providing a Registered Office Service for £45 plus VAT pa. It was incoroporated on 07/08/2014 so the business is clearly a new venture.

The ICO Registration Number given is perfectly valid, (you can check for yourself at https://ico.org.uk/esdwebpages/search) and examination of the entry on the DPR shows that the company is involved in the business of "Private investigation" and reveals the statement that "Personal information is traded and shared as a primary business function". In that sense, it is no different from any other tracing agent; the only distinction appears to be that CDE are willing to release (at least some) results to "Members of the general public". As in displaying them on some website.

As far as I'm aware, there is no specific 'right to privacy' in the UK. So that for example, if Joe Bloggs knows that you live at 23 Railway Cuttings, East Cheam, he is perfectly free to impart this information to anyone else as he sees fit. Unless, that is, you gave Joe Bloggs your address in confidence. In which case you can sue his behind for breaching that confidence. At least that's my understanding. A real lawyer might say different.:)

  • I took myself off the open register some years ago now due to the job I do it is not safe for people to be able to look up my address easily online, I had to write to 192.com to get them to take my info off their site, they would not accept an email so it was a total pain, I think the internet is like the wild west and your personal information should not be published online unless you give consent.

I have checked these links and I am not on any of them, and yet I have a mortgage, credit cards etc, so I cant see it would be from credit files. I don't do store loyalty cards, and never opt into mailing lists, could the data be from one of those sources?

One thing is worth checking though if you do appear on it and you think you are not on the electoral role, do the council definitely still have you as off the open register, someone came round to our house this year, checking our details for it, and my husband had to run after her afterwards and check she was keeping us off the open register, I think if he hadn't done that we would have ended up back on it without realising.

I did a whois on the searchelectoralroll.co.uk address and it comes up as a home address in Bolton, Lancashire, maybe it would be worth contacting them, to see if they will say where they got your info, it is a long shot, but worth trying.

It's quite possibly not the same 'they'.

The registrant is a private detective. He runs a company known as Intelligent Tracing Ltd. They clearly also operate as tracing agents. They are registered with the ICO as well.
  • After going through the hassle of removing my details from 192.com, peopletracer, and opting out of the edited electoral roll two years ago ... my details are on this site . My FULL address is on there.

    ICO complaint time?

I'm still quite flummoxed at what campaign this relates to - Could you please enlighten us, or maybe get the thread shifted to a correct forum?

This free electoral roll is way out of date.

I just checked and it shows an address that I haven't lived at for 2 years and a family member who died 5 years ago .
