Nah. There are a few sanctimonious hypocrites on this forum who say they want house prices to fall, but when they're about to sell they'll want top dollar for theirs. :rotfl:
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

The real problem is that when a home owner is ready to agree a sensible price with a buyer another buyer comes along and outbids the first. If potential buyers want house prices to fall why do they try to outbid each other, it only pushes prices up.

    Top dollar, or market price?

I'd agree that most people want the market price, otherwise they are making life needlessly difficult for themselves in order to make a one man stand that is going to make not a jot of differece to the housing market.

Market price is very different to top dollar though.

Afterall, so long as all houses fall in value at the same time, getting the market price for your house is not going to hinder you. Infact, if you are trading up, it's going to help you. Of course, there is the added issue of how much debt you have, especially after 110%+ loans etc.

Don't confuse people wanting the market price with wanting "top dollar" though.

Most people don't want the market price at all. Buyers want to pay less and sellers achieve more.

The market price only changes when buyers and sellers agree to lower prices. Your whole raison d'être is to argue that houses should be cheaper but are unwilling to sell yours for less than whatever the current market price is. If you won't why should anyone else?

    That creates the market price.

Your house is only worth what the buyer will (and can) pay.

Not sure why this has turned into a personal atack all of a sudden.

It's just a scare tactic. Presumably this tory MP feels that people value their house prices over and above any reason they may have voted UKIP.

    Bit desperate really.

Seems to be reaching out with the suggestion "Vote for me and we'll keep house prices high".

The question is: Why would house prics fall if they voted a UKIP MP in? Theres not a single, decent reason other than making stuff up on the cuff.

They may aswell say "chickens will stop laying eggs if you vote UKIP" as it's qually as pathetic.

Really - I would say a ukip win makes a labour win in may more likely and a labour win is likely to be worse for house prices (at least in the short term) than a tory/coalition win.
    I think....

I'd be happy if prices didn't rise or even drop slightly but the "old 3 times income is a myth"

If the UK leaves the EU, will house prices drop? Non UK born Citizens of the EU living in the UK now, what will happen to them? If the current high house prices are significantly due to supply and demand, the demand will fall if we leave the EU?

UKIP are not against movement of people into and out of the UK, what they do not want is uncontrolled free movement of EU citizens. I know the non EU migrant level is very high, which also needs looking at!

Also, when people talk about wanting prices to drop, they need to say where they live? We all know London and South East is different, and maybe other hot spots around the UK.

We all know that the market is in such a mess, unwinding the multiple problem it is almost impossible. It will take years to fix the problems, and in London maybe a short sharp correction would be good. They say what goes up quickly, usually goes down quickly?

would like house prices to remain flat and then slowly increase in line with inflation. As long as my house is worth as much as it has cost me at the end of the mortgage I'm happy.
    Peace.

There are a few homeowners on this small section of the forum who want house prices to fall.

As said, whatever they claim now, as soon as they'll put their property on the market they'll come back asking how to milk the last drop from a buyer and whether they should accept that offer which is quit below asking price.

That's the ultimate test of whether they are hypocrite: They want prices to fall? OK. Then they should sell quite below their valuation. That's how prices fall.

That is, of course, unless they own their house for 20+ years, in which case it has increased so much in value that even a good crash would not actually hurt them. Which makes them hypocrites as well.
Not everyone had a landlord mindset.

What is a 'landlord mindset'? That's just an empty formula. Rhetoric does not make an argument.
