OH and BIL are going out into the field first thing in the morning and will (hopefully) be bringing back a couple of bunnies.

OH and BIL are too squeamish to paunch and skin, so looks like it's down to me! Never having done it before, i'm a bit dubious about 1. whether i'll be able to do it without squirming :o and 2. whether i'll get it right or not!

Looking forward to getting some food for free though ;)

    Any tips?
  • yes i think i could, if someone has shot a healthy edable rabbit then it shouldnt go to waste, i have`nt had it for years but as a child my parents breed rabbits for us to eat we also had chickens for eggs and meat and ducks for the same. i did`nt realise though at the time that my sunday roast consisted of the rabbit i played with the day before, ahgggg!
One day I will live in a cabin in the woods

I'd like to try one, i don't think i've ever ate it. In fact i can't even remember seeing them for sale anywhere, except in pet shops.

Even when I ate meat, I couldn't abide the taste of rabbit; it had a funny tang to it which turned my stomach.
Rabbit meat is like any other meat, the handling affects the quality and that can include something as simple as failing to drain the rabbits bladder. ;)

Rabbits live in that uncomfortable place somewhere between pets and the food chain, but a wild rabbit is wonderful. I like them stewed in cider with diced carrots, lardons of bacon, cabbage, mushrooms and maybe celeriac.
  • My mum breeds them for food and we often enjoy a slow cooked side of bunny My step-dad does the dirty work and brings them to the kitched all ready prepared as if they'd come from Tesco!:D

I'm trying to persuade them to get a couple of chickens too but mum's having none of it as she's the one who has to feed and look after them all.
