Reasonable time for no heat no hot water?

We have had many boiler problems in our rented property and managed to borrow electric heaters from family, thankfully the hot water tank has a immersion switch!
I think Monday is perfectly reasonable in the circumstances.
Do you get on with any of your neighbours? I would happily let any of ours in for a hot shower if their boiler was broken, weather I knew them well or not!
LOL - thanks I imagined how that conversation would go... and it made me giggle.
You have to realise I'm wearing about three layers and am wrapped in a bug pink fluffy blanket at this point with a hot water bottle tied to the small of my back with a shawl... I haven't brushed my hair as it's in its 'night time' plait to stop my fella lying in it while I sleep... I have cleaned my teeth and washed my face - however have not yet faced a strip wash as it's rather chilly here and the thought of taking clothes off rather than putting them on is just not floating my boat right now. I look like a vagrant would be depicted in Home alone...
We only recently moved to this ice box of a house I feel knocking on a strangers door and saying 'hi - we've recently moved in down the street and I was wondering if I might spoil your Sunday by having a bath / shower in your house while you are scared I'm some kind of weirdo who is here to rob you / become a squatter / or do a big fat stinky poo in your loo...
I think i'll have a shower with the watering can. Have at least realized it seems warmer outside than in the hosue when fetching the watering can to clean it out... haha
It's so cold i'm considering housework to see if it warms me up. Gutted my partner has the car or I would go to get a heater from ANYWHERE or in fact book in the slightly dubious looking hotel at the end of the road for a shower - but am really not leaving the house looking like this or I may get signposted to the church round the back that does free meals in winter time... haha

The hotel at the end of the street only charging £39.99.
Phone them and plead with them to let you jump in a shower which has been vacated by a guest and before the cleaners get to it.
Tell them you'll bring your own towel.
I own self catering apartments and would be happy to oblige if someone was genuinely in need. Maybe I'm too nice :-)0 -
Round here the council will generally attend no heating / hot water within 4 hours 24/7/365, why should private landlords be any different ?
A Corporation is a totally different entity to a private LL. Comparisons of that nature are pretty meaningless. Both will share something in common though. A preferred contractor. Rightly so.0 -

Clearly I may be wrong, but: Take example where heating system fails & is not fixed for 3 months: Tenant incurs extra costs due to heating with leccy rather than gas (Electricity more expensive for same heating capability).
The tenant has suffered an actual, quatifiable, loss and thus I think has a valid claim against landlord.
Why would that same principle not apply for a shorter failure period??
If I get such failures in property I rent out I usually drop the rent a bit until things fixed, if only to avoid such arguments & keep tenant relationships sweeter.0 -
I think the landlord would be liable only if he breached his obligations, and that, as such, there is no automatic right to compensation just because of a boiler breakdown.
Of course many landlords would contribute as a gesture of goodwill, though.0 -
Haven't been through whole thread but Could you go to the local swimming pool/leisure centre, pay for a swim and then use showers there ? Not ideal but better than a cold shower IMO :-)0

We live in the sicks - and I won't get in a taxi while I'm not clean...
my fellas mum is away - but when he gets back with the car he is going to take me there and i can have a hot bath... will take a while for the water to heat up and I'm still voting on the side of the hotel... rather than take about 4 hours but hey ho...
at least the net book on my lap is keeping me warm...

Walk upstairs in most hotels in the late morning and you'll find many rooms open and awaiting cleaners. Jump in for a quick shower and skidaddle......
