Most of the laptops will do for older games, but if you are gong to buy a laptop for gaming in general, a dedicated graphics chip is best.

Is it not more appropriate to let man choose what laptop he wants? So just give him a budget and let him choose one?
Most of todays generation are computer literate and only he knows what games he's playing and what specs he's going to need.
EDIT: Or at least have him come up with a suitable laptop, and then seek to find cheaper alternatives online0 -
Well it's supposed to be a surprise for hi birthday but i know ehat you mean. Im also getting him a new phone and trying to get ideas of which he would like was like trying to draw teeth. Might just go for the lenovo as previously suggested.0

Which Lenovo? There have been three so far. None of the laptop featured are great, but that is the way it is these days. Not much in the way of a bargain.0 -
