I know this sounds like a silly question, but is it safe for children to eat raw cauli and broccoli?
My 10 year old loves to munch on it all the time, but a friend of mine said its not good for his stomach and that he shouldn't be eating it. She advised me to only give him raw carrots and mangetout etc if he wanted some.
But surely raw veg is OK to eat? I am a bit confused!

Did she have any evidence for her stance?0 -
There are a lot worse things to eat. As long as you wash the veggies thoroughly beforehand as they could be covered in manure etc, I really see no problem, and veggies will be good for his digestion due to the roughage content. Far better than burgers !!! :T0

If it hasn't upset his stomach after eating it I'd say it's probably ok. I like the hard 'core' parts of cauliflower and cabbage. Always eat it raw! It's probably by far the best way of getting nutrients into him, and if he likes it then great!0

Wash well and drain but raw veg is absolutely fine.Living the dream and retired in Cyprus :j

Thanks guys. I think my friend subscribes to the 'If-the-internet-says-it-then-it-must-be-true' kind of thinking.
I didn't think it could be that bad for him, as its just vegetables after all.0 -
Another who says if it hasn't upset him so far then it is okay. My DH regularly snacks his way around the allotment and hasn't had any troubles. I like broccoli stalks and the odd floret of cauli when I am preparing them and have no issues either. Call it crudit!s and it's all fine0

Perfectly fine to eat them raw. I've done so since I was a child. Used to grab all kinds of raw veg from the fridge, wash it and munch on it. Mum was happy as it was better than crisps/chocolate/fizzy drinks etc. If he isn't getting a dodgy stomach then it really is fine.

I have eaten raw veg for years more so since I started growing my own organic veg, it is really good for you and as long as your stomach can handle it there is nothing whatsoever wrong with it.
raw food eating is really healthy, I believe there was a really good episode of River Cottage veg that included it

I can't see the difference between eating raw cauli and broccoli and eating salad veg (subject to usual washing etc).
I have heard that eating raw potato is dangerous but that's all.0 -
To be honest I prefer to eat my veg raw, as a child i often pinched and ate peas and beans from next doors garden. I love any veg even raw potatoes. A good way to getting your 5 a day and for children to eat veg and like the taste. Never done me any harm and i am 63.2020 Stash makes/destash 61/1500
