Yet you think the OP would have noticed it and is being dishonest, yet it's quite acceptable for the retailer to make a mistake, not notice, and the OP to be inconvenienced due to this.
Where exactly does the OP say the retailer made a mistake?0 -

Plus paypal would have sent emails to the OP advising the transaction had been cancelled.
Its actually quite nice seeing a thread where a retailer is chasing someone up for payment. Although different situation, will hopefully serve warning to all those recent threads where people have been sent incorrect items and not charged - the retailers will at some point chase it up!0 -

For one, the company will likely have hundreds/thousands of transactions daily. I doubt the OP has hundreds of transactions even per month, nvm per day.
Also to point out that OP says that paypal cancelled the payment - so not necessarily a mistake on the retailers part.
Perhaps you shouldn't be too quick to point the finger either?
Fair points, but it is also apparent from past posts on here that many people don't check their statements - not spotting direct debits that have been going out of their accounts for years. I would probably be classified as one of them because I just skim over the countless payments each month to PayPal, Amazon and supermarkets. I await admonishment!0 -
Well, I am totally intent on paying, just wondering where I might stand on the Installment side of things. i don't use paypal much and never use the email that is attached to it. Didn't expect an attack, just advice. I am a very honest person who through the Christmas period, like everyone, has a lot more money going out and just expected payment to be received by the company being as the coat was sent to me. Thanks for the help0

In my experience people like the OP (who can't afford to pay off a £200 bill) tend to check their statements a lot as they have to account for every penny. It tends to be the people who aren't really short of money who don't notice transactions leaving their account.
I would say the OP knew they hadn't paid and had hoped to get away with it.0 -

I wasn't admonishing anyone. Was merely saying that its far more likely for the customer to notice before the retailer.
I'm not going to apportion blame because an honest mistake is exactly that. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
I think the original problem was a paypal thing, I am going to delve into my old email account as a matter of interest, c if anything sent.0

After several attempts to remember the flaming password, I am happy to say that nothing was sent to advise cancellation. I was advised that this was a problem that they had with a number of paypal orders at this time. Just hope other people didn't purchase higher priced items that they now have to find money for.
Sorry to be on the defensive, but feel I need to....all will be sorted now anyway, just going to hope that a few instalments will be ok0 -

I've had the same thing happen to me with Papal, luckily only £25 so I had the money to repay. PayPal never sent me an email saying it had been cancelled, I only had the original email to say it had gone through and it was only when the seller contacted me and I actually logged in to PayPal that I could see it was reversed.
The retailer would be pretty stupid to not accept an offer of payment by instalments, their only other option would be to make a small claim against you which would cost them more, drag out for a while and make them look very bad when you tell the judge that you've offered payment and they refused.0
