Hi there,
I bought a jacket for a present last year (£200) for christmas from cotswold outdoors. The item was bought through their website and paid through paypal.
I received a phone call three weeks ago telling me that for some reason paypal cancelled the payment (after they sent me the goods) and not because there was no money in it.
The payment defiantly did not leave my account so I definitely didn't pay, but where do I stand now.
I know I haven't paid, but with christmas back on the doorstep I cannot really afford it at the moment.
What can I do?
Many thanks
Kel

Return the jacket or pay for it0

They are within their rights to request payment, they have 6 years to do so. Suggest you pay up.0

Write or e-mail the company acknowledging the debt but state that due to then not inforning you earlier and with Christmas being so close, you are unable to pay in full at this time.
Either state when you will be able to pay or suggest that you could pay it off in a few installments.
Provided that you are polite in this, I can't see whay they would refuse this.0 -

I cant believe someone would ask what to do to be honest.
It smacks of dishonesty in that you probably noticed it hadn't been paid for a long time ago and just hoped
it would not be noticed.
Just ask if you can pay for it over a short periodmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Someone orders something, pays for it to such an extent that the supplier sends it out, then nearly a year later the retailer realises they've made a mistake
Yet you think the OP would have noticed it and is being dishonest, yet it's quite acceptable for the retailer to make a mistake, not notice, and the OP to be inconvenienced due to this.0 -

Can't really compare the two.
For one, the company will likely have hundreds/thousands of transactions daily. I doubt the OP has hundreds of transactions even per month, nvm per day.
Also to point out that OP says that paypal cancelled the payment - so not necessarily a mistake on the retailers part.
Perhaps you shouldn't be too quick to point the finger either? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
