    Seriously, does it really matter?
The Hoover brand whilst still a trademark has become genericised to the point it can simply mean a vacuum cleaner and doesn't need pointing out every time somebody uses the word in a post.

But it's so much more fun when we point it out.

Like it's more funny when people expect consumer rights on the things they bring with them.

Reminds me of an Alan Partridge scene. "It's like people saying Tannoy when they mean public address system, Tannoy is a brand name!".

Why is it necessary to say if the goods are over 6 months the OP may have to get proof the fault is inherent? The goods were bought from Tesco and sold with a one year guarantee and SOGA is not required at this stage.

If it's not bunged up and there is a fault just take it back to the store you bought it from.

Well firstly, the OP's question was "can I take it back to Tesco?"

There are only two (that I counted anyway) posts mentioning the 6 month limit. The first of which also says that they can try tesco as they may refund or replace without question. The second of which (mine) says that while I'd speak to Tesco first, it may be easier to have it repaired under warranty.

    So whats the issue?
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

I feel it confuses the OP when SOGA is raised when it's not required. Big companies like Tesco will always sell electrical goods with a one year guarantee.

I'd say it would be more confusing to tell someone 'Tesco will definitely replace it' when I have no idea what Tesco will do, what (if anything) is wrong with the vacuum cleaner, and what guarantee (if any) came with it. I'd rather not treat posters as if they were stupid by withholding important information from them.

Tesco will repair, replace or even refund, they will not suggest that the OP proves the fault is inherent as they sell with a one year guarantee.

Assuming the cleaner is faulty of course.
