    Morning!

The party sounds great Bobarella, have fun.

    - 2 NSDs, mainly as I only have £3 to last until Friday
    - sort out Christmas wrapping paper and cards in cupboard to see if I need to buy any.
    - B/L/D from stores
    - no heating.
    - knit more cashmere arm warmers for presents (£9 for yarn that'll do 2 pairs, these things are £25+ a pair to buy).

    Morning :j

Hope the party goes ok Bob :) Sounds great fun - I used to do parties for my children in the same way. I must admit I stopped doing them for my son before my daughters, as 20 odd boys running around and getting a bit hyper (and not really being interested in the games I had organised) got too much  We did a special birthday activity instead after that, with 2 or 3 best friends - bowling, ice skating or the cinema were popular choices, with a burger or something while we were out. I think he was a bit older than 7 when I decided no more big parties though. For some reason I found that the girls were happy with party games etc for a bit longer, and it was less manic. I don't know why, or if that is typical, or just my kids and their friends.

    Today I will:
No heating downstairs, just bathroom, airing cupboard and loft conversion. I will light the woodburner if it gets chilly later, but it is fine at the moment.
Going to a small local antiques fair a bit later this morning - any spends will be for my business, but I don't anticipate buying much.
Clean the bathroom and kitchen so there is less housework to do tomorrow :)
Meals at home from food I already have in
A bit of gardening later if it doesn't rain - I have some new raspberry canes ordered from Thompson and Morgan (golden ones, how exciting is that :D) and need to get a space ready for them. I do find T&M a bit random with their delivery policy. You have to pay upfront and wait months, and are never sure quite when things will turn up. I recently found a new online nursery whose customer service and comms (and products) was excellent. Unfortunately though I already had these raspberries on order :(

Right, must get ready to go out. Happy Sunday everyone :)

Fine for food (some odd combinations later this week no doubt), all bills paid and the cat has food so it'll just be a quiet week :)

  • Morning All,

Good luck with the party Bob, I'm sure they'll love it, Although, I would recommend having a bottle of wine chilling in the fridge and once they've all gone you should treat yourself to a glass :) I think when you change the style of the party will be up to you (as Dawn said) rather than the children not playing the traditional games.

    OK, my list for today:
Transferred some money to bank account from PayPal (all eb@y sales fund)
    All meals from stores
Checked emails, not so many coming through now I've been unsubscribing
We need to go and get the laminate flooring for the hallway, unfortunately, the discounted store which was around 10 miles away has closed and the next nearest branch is almost twice as far. So it's going to cost a little more in fuel to get it.
The ironing basket needs clearing today, I can iron some more things to sell at the same time
Maybe even list more items (sometimes I really have to force myself to do this)
We may go to FIL for a visit - their house is always lovely and warm and we haven't been round for a couple of weeks
Try to resist heating going on
Try for a NSD (except for the flooring)

Quiet day really, which is what I need on a Sunday.

    Morning all!

    hi to lpp - I hope you're ok :)
Bob - hope the party wasn't too mad! I don't know much about 7 year olds but I'd love some jelly and ice cream!

    Update on yesterday's progress:

    • Joint of pork in SC with herbs from garden - all cooked and in the fridge
    • Write short list of required supermarket goodies - finish today
    • Needlepoint while OH having long bubble bath - did loads all day. Very relaxing
    • Washing on line to dry (noticed the HORRENDOUS state of the garden :o) - more washing in house too!
    • B/L/D from stores. Made drop scones for brekkie, topped with hm jam given to me by a friend - not quite D - OH decided he wanted burgers and I haven't got any hm ones in, quick trip to asda
    • Make the rather sorry looking (free) apples in fruit bowl into apple sauce to go with pork - do this today
so that makes today's list look like this:

    • B/L/D from stores (if can keep OH in line!) - looking good
    • Make Christmas cake! This is the big job of the day - in the oven!
    • Keep chugging through washing to dry. House looks like widow Twanky's laundry (there's only the two of us!)
    • Make chickpea and chorizo soup to use up bits of kale etc - might od this later/tomorrow. Have blistered my hand by creaming the sugar and butter for the Christmas cake
    • Short shopping list for Asda, need chorizo and Christmas cake bits. Will used smartprice mixed dried fruit as it's cheaper than buying separate currants etc. - very expensive shop some how. Did buy bumper pack of loo roll though.
    • Heating not on til much later (relented yesterday due to laundry situation but house roasting. - house will be warm enough from Christmas cake cooking
    • More needlepoint - yay
    • Ring spa (booked a fab pre-Christmas treat deal - not strictly mse I know but couldn't help myself) to transfer OH's free treatment to me (he hates the idea of strangers touching him). - done
    • Possibly a walk as didn't go yesterday - nope, OH now in bath
Right, I'm off to look up the cake recipe! Woo!

    Have a good one all

  • Hi All

Sounds like everyone is having a productive time. Has got me going. I have cleaned downstairs, 3 loads in dishwasher and it is still working so crisis over! hopefully.

I have ordered stuff for the hampers for xmas, but as I can not do anything til it arrives I am tempted to go upstairs to xmas stash and do some wrapping. I fully intend to spend next weekend doing only xmas stuff and the weekend after and going to a craft xmas fayre for a mulled wine and walk around smelling xmas.

Yep, I love the season. The visitors, the short days, the log fires, the music, church, even the impulse buys.,....

Have a good day. Go birthday partying, eat too much left over cake. A NSD for me.

Just got back from the market. Stocked up on meat! Butchers there does three for £10 but they're all prepriced so routed through for most expensive ones! In total got about £24 worth of meat for £10. Plus 3 massive steaks for £10 which we've cut into 6. So that's the freezer stocked! Will definitely be going there again to stock up as we are big meat eaters!

    Afternoon Campers,
Can't say I've exactly been caning it with the money saving today, as have stepped up the Christmas shopping by getting a few gifts ordered online. I've been buying gifts & popping them away in the presents box all year, but I still had a few more expensive items to buy.....now done. Compared prices & had a code for a free kit of goodies for myself from L'Occitaine. Yay!!
Still kept the faith with a few other things:
*Loaded washer for a cheap overnight wash on Economy 7.
    *Read energy meters.
*Big pork shoulder in slow cooker with some of the leftover cider from when I made the apple, cider & chilli jelly last week. Hopefully there will be good porky leftovers.
    *Did a few surveys.
*Emailed home insurance provider to ask about my damaged phone.
*Jotted down a few gift ideas for myself - mr f asked me as he knows I like useful presents (which are also lovely!). Find it much much harder to spend money on myself than in the bad old days!
*Cast on socks for a present (from yarn I already have).....didn't get this done the other day as got bogged down in trying to teach myself how to knit a fringe.
    *Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
And to do now, before it gets too dark......I must pop down to the veggie garden to dig some leeks to make some leek & potato mash tonight, also some more apples to make apple sauce.
I'm also planning to do a lot of festive planning this coming week.
Bob - hope the party went well......expect you will soon be sitting in a darkened room with a few helpful little units of alcohol!
Let's all gear ourselves up for a great week. New week, new start, lots of opportunities for money saving.
    Cheers,
f x (off to get me spade out!)
