Saturday/Sunday 15th/16th November - what small DFW things will you do this weekend?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

Hooray it's the weekend!
Hope everyone is having a lovely day so far. Hugs to those who aren't well or are sad
It's sunny spells and dry all day today. OH not amazing but the best thing is to soldier on!
Today's listy:- Joint of pork in SC with herbs from garden
- Write short list of required supermarket goodies
- Needlepoint while OH having long bubble bath
- Possibly a walk later
- Washing on line to dry (noticed the HORRENDOUS state of the garden
)
- B/L/D from stores. Made drop scones for brekkie, topped with hm jam given to me by a friend
- Make the rather sorry looking (free) apples in fruit bowl into apple sauce to go with pork
- Possibly make some Christmas cards if OH feels up to it
- Wash, blanch and freeze bits of kale and spring greens in fridge or make into soup. Something to save wasting them!
- Possibly more cooking. Might roast a butternut squash or something
- Buy plant saucers so I can bring the chilli plats indoors over winter!
- Look up how to revive rose bushes. The ones that came with the house are all "carp"
and straggly.
Have a good day all

Hello
Thanks for starting the thread Carrie. Most people's gardens don't look their best at this time of the year, if that is any consolation - I was toying with the idea of getting out in mine and planting some spring bulbs, but it is so wet out there. No excuse though, as the bulbs are actually going in pots
I got up early to a living room full of sparkly tureens and candelabras, dragged more items out of the loft and from the boxes under the spare bed, priced up the lot and took them to my sales unit. A couple of the things I took down yesterday afternoon had already sold
I had a tidy lounge for about 5 minutes, and then DD bought baby GD round. They have just gone, and there are toys everywhere now :rotfl:
So, better get on:
Tidy lounge (again) Done. Needs hoovering as well, but that is for another day
Fold washing from airer and put into the airing cupboard Done
Deal with paperwork that seems to be accumulating Got rid of Lakeland catalogues WITHOUT ordering anything, sorted some business paperwork (OH's) and got rid of free newspapers. All in recycling except any bits with address/ other personal details which have gone in the woodburner
Look for some more bits to list on ebay Not done this yet
Plant bulbs I planted tulips in big pots in the front garden, daffodils in an old Belfast sink, and fritillaries under the raspberries in my little shady woodland garden
Dinner from stores (as were breakfast and lunch) We had jacket potatoes stuffed with smoked haddock with buttery cabbage on the side
No heating downstairs - bathroom, airing cupboard and loft conversion (low, otherwise freezing) only. Will light the woodburner
later. Done, lovely warm toes now
NSD
Hope everyone has a nice day0 -
Good afternoon!
Was a quite pleasant day here so put some washing on the line, will take a little less time in the tumble wumble then!
Had tried to do a bit of fence rescue as it has been blown around a bit with this weather, hopefully will last through the winter only screening as its a large area and couldn't afford to fence it properly!
Should be a NSD, will be using cash I took out to possibly buy some chocolate in a bit and as I took it out ages ago I figure that makes it already spent!
Happy Saturday!

Hi all - hope youre having a good weekend.
I genuinely had a dream last night that I found a pile of roadkill outside tesco! What has this thread done to me! Ha ha!
This weekend I have/will:-
1. Done 2 loads of washing on 30 degree quick wash (however washing basket doesn't seem to have gone down!)
2. Hung washing on line - however it then rained so I think it's wetter than when it went out! So now on airers drying inside
3. Pay money into bank and allocate to savings/debts
4. Have hair cut - £13.50 as didn't have conditioner or blow dry
5. Do lidl shop sticking to list
6. Go to market to buy meat
7. Had lunch at parents including cake!
8. Rip out remainder of old kitchen units - we moved the kitchen and want to add in a downstairs loo (not MSE but it felt good after an argument with a jobs worth!)
9. Make Thai curry for dinner and freeze any leftovers
10. Sort through massive stash of cleaning products so don't buy any that aren't needed!
11. Clean bathroom
Think that's everything for now!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
Current debt - £5,435.00

Hi Frugal Friends,
A very pleasant day which involved the following bits of money saving:
*Met up at Christmas event for family day. They loved my festive picnic so yesterday's baking was well worth it. Much cheaper than buying lunch out.
*We were treated to coffee & cakes :-)
*Bought a few bits & pieces but all expenditure was from the correct cash budgets so no impact on bank account at all.
*Acquired huge pile of magazines from my Mum so that should stop me buying any for ages.
*Also acquired free cat food, a lovely plant & a pretty Christmas bauble.
*Remembered to hand over gifts for people my family will see before Christmas, but I (being the furthest north) will not - reckon just being organised enough to write a few cards & wrap a few gifts in Nov will save a total of around £12 in postage.
*Visited a well-known purveyor of mobile phone gadgetry to complain that my phone will no longer switch on. Level 3 of foxgloves assertiveness required. Think I have a way forward which I will start to implement tomorrow.
*Bought own brand Loperamide tablets in Wilko's. Rarely use them, but useful to have in. They are own brand version of Immodium & cost 80p. Am sure that last time I bought branded, they cost over £2 for same size pack.
*Gathered another bucket of windfall apples from our amazing old tree & cut a bowl of rocket for tonight's salad.
*Mr f is baking a cake! He is at a conference tomorrow & all delegates agreed to contribute something for a buffet. He decided he'd like to try baking my chocolate orange cake himself using ingredients we already had, instead of buying a cake. He's been studying the recipe like it's a blue print for constructing the next space shuttle. He doesn't usually bake & is determined not to turn up with a saddo crummy lump in a tin!
*Watch more You tube videos on Latvian mitten knitting so I can get this tricky looking kit started.
*Drink wine. OK, that's not money saving, but it is one of the free bottles I bought with my voucher prize for winning that recipe competition so it sort of counts :-)
Have a great night everyone.

Hi All
You all seem to be having a good day.
So far today?
Cooked roast pork day with red cabbage and apple made yesterday. Only 5 of us for this meal.
Made a massive vat of chile for DS2 party tonight and made some milk choc fudge. All delivered and saved him a fortune, he was going to buy pizzas for everyone. Am now MSE for him, although he seems ot have failed to grasp how much he has saved, especially as the 2 750g of mince were mine!
Also put out last of bird food so I really need to go shopping now for peanuts and stuff.
Have changed all beds and used full rate electricity on 4 loads as I can not stand the mess. Done another 2 loads of DD stuff home with BF for the weekend.
Have enough food left over for tomorrow and also batch cooked bolognaise sauce for the freezer.
Think Dishwasher is on the blink so may have to deal with this and cooker has been on the way out for last 12 months.
Bought stuff for xmas hampers, probably enough for 2 xmas rounds. used bread basket as the hamper as these were less and 80p each on grebay and I really do not want to lash out on a basket.
So off to bath and bed. xx0 -
Hi all, happy weekend :T
Some of the things I've done today- Weekend treat - 12" pizza from Aldi for 99p instead of having a takeaway delivery
- Bottle of wine tonight - won in a charity raffle for a £1 entry. Actually won two bottles so saving the other for next weekend!
- Cashed lots of 1p, 2p, 5p and 20p's in today - totalling £16, now sitting in my bank account
- Bought lots of fresh fruit and veg from Aldi to make nice things for work during the week - no buying meals at work and healthy too!
That's me0 -
Hi
Made a cake for DS1s birthday rather than buying shop bought. Off to ice it in a minute.
Horrible weather so all the washing I did earlier is still wet. Have lit the fire so must remember to put the airer in front of it before bed.
Made toasties with some leftover meatballs in sauce that was lurking in the freezer for tea.
Oh and I am also drinking wine won in a raffle! Last glass so will drink it slowly.0 -
Hi everyone, thanks for starting us off CLF. Lots of great MSEing going on.
My little list for today:
All meals from stores
Walked to DD's swimming lesson
General cleaning and tidying
Trip into next town after lunch - managed to get a free parking spot
Deposited coins from sealed pot into bank
Took DD to a pottery painting shop - she painted a tree decoration for a Christmas present for her Grandma and one for our tree too. I had a go at a snowman statue. It wasa lovely afternoon and the money spent on it has gone on things we'll have for years.
We did go to a cafe afterwards for a drink and a cake. Not very MSE but I did make sure we had lunch before we went, so we didn't have a full meal out.
Went to lidl armed with a meal plan for the next week and a half. The fridge and cupboards are bursting and I've planned to double up on a few meals, so should have 6 portions going into the freezer too.
Ordered something from Groupon which will be Christmas presents for 2 people. I used a credit I had on there plus a few pounds from my eb@y sales, so it feels like they were free.
Well now I'm settled down for a quiet, wineless (no raffle prizes for me!) evening.
See you all tomorrow.SPC # 348 2014-£169.07/2015 - £156.89

Hi All
Late night Bob today. Kernackered Bob....
I have spent today getting ready for the onslaught tommorow. We are now up to 18, 6 year olds coming to party.
My list today has been;
1. Made party bags out of wrapping paper cut in two then stuck together. They look great. Saved me £2.
2. Used the rest of the Argos voucher to buy the wrapping paper & 8 Cadbury selection boxes at 50p each. Used the chocolate to fill the party bags.
3. Used free toys from magazines saved from when my son still liked them, to fill the party bags. Also had kept some of the other tat he was given from other parties with a view to reusing. Double benefit of decluttering more crap from the house. Saving £2 to £3.
4. Made our own cake for the party. Saving anywhere between £7 & £100, depending on who makes you a cake.
5. Cooked a big bag of frozen sausages and cut them up, way cheaper than buying cocktail sausages.
6. Found some party poppers from last year to use up.
7. Took son to the building society to pay in another bit of birthday money. The lady was lovely with him & really made him feel special about saving. Top marks!
8. Walked 10 miles today as had to go into town for a client meeting. I was rewarded with a lovely free coffee & a roll.
9. Found 9p. When I paid for the party food I used 20p in roadkill that was amassed in my bag from last few days.
10. 2 lots of viewings on the car, no offers but there is still time.
11. Best of all my Gucci folder sold for £37 plus £7 postage which is brilliant. That pays for the entire party spend!
I really hope tommorow goes well. I can't help but think this might be the last year we do a big birthday party. Do 7 year olds want musical chairs & jelly & icecream?? So I'm going to enjoy tommorow.
night all.
