Magazine offers - 3 for £1, free gifts etc II

Just wanted to relate my tale of woe with these offers and direct debits.
I've taken out a few of these offers. You know the sort of thing. Set up DD, get 3 issues for a quid, then cancel to avoid any further costs
Almost universally these have proved to be a disaster, with the companies wrongly debiting me for a full subscription instead of a trial offer, right from the off
This has caused failed dd withdrawals, bank fees, admin costs, unauthorised overdrafts, phonecalls, letters, hassle etc. I know that the DD guarantee protects me, but I must have spent a fiver in phonecalls and stamps putting things right
To top it all, I recently got a loaded 3 for £1 sub, but they debited my credit card £40. Dennis seem to be the worst offenders, having hit me for full subs on Viz amongst others. At the same time, any free gifts seem conspicuous by their absence
I don't like to moan, and I'm sure I may have just been unlucky. Being the cynical blighter that I am, I wonder if these offers are loss-leaders for these companies. They get your full details and mischarge, and a certain percentage of folk don't bother correcting them, so the system pays for itself...
I'm not saying don't, but I would warn that when things go wrong, the problem is MADE to be yours to sort out..Waddle you do eh?0 -
Sorry to hear you have had so many problems pike999, I have subscribed to several mags for freebies and never had any problems at all!
You must just have been unlucky. I bet it really puts you off subscribing to any more. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Hi all, i have had a look at the issue of Loaded with the offer.
Interesting points are
* free gift will be dispatched in 28 days subject to availability
* offer only avalible to 3 monthly direct debit subscribers.
* You can cancel DD after received second issue - no catch!
If my free gift does not arrive, I will complaining & going to Trading Standards if no satisfactory response received.0 -

Has anyone ever used The Magazine group to buy magazine subscriptions? I order one as a Christmas rpesent, and haven't received anything. I emailed them and haven't received reply. Just wondering if it's a known bad company or I'm just unlucky?
Any info gratefully received thanks!0 -
