I am looking at the best device that I can record twin channels, watch bbc iplayer and other channels that have catchup. Possibly youtube as I will be able to watch all the tv stuff people have uploaded there. Also, to go back a few days on freeview channels would be nice. I don't understand the difference in freeview and youview.

I was in asda and they were selling very cheap Now Tv boxes with all the above except the HD recording so I ditched the idea although I was almost tempted for all the free movies.

In a nutshell I just would like the best quality, sound and picture for no more than £150.

There seem to be many models of Humix boxes but the reviews are always mixed on Amazon so hard to take the plunge.

Thanks.

You can buy a 39" Full HD Smart LED Freeview HD TV for not much more. Just connect an external USB drive or HDD for recording.

    You want a Youview box.

Youview is basically Freeview+, that's Freeview with the HD channels but it also has other features.

All of the online players like iPlayer etc.

A program guide that goes backwards so you can still watch programs that were on up to a week ago, I think it's a week but could be wrong.

    Better search tools

The BT Youview box is a rebadged Humax and is very good, I've had no major issues with mine.

Free for a time 9deprnds what pack) then 8.99 for 3 months then I think £15 a month.

Its Skys way of getting their services to you without a dish.

Don't get me wrong I have one from the JVC tv offer and its good for what it is, but its not what your looking for, the stuff on there is limited to what Sky permit, (although you can hack it slightly) , so there's no easy way watch a TV program if you download it without having more devices to serve it to the box on your home network.

There's a £140 JVC tv deal with the NowTv Box on in Comet/PC World that can also record TV to a USB device connected, but realistically you need a dedicated box, either Freeview or Freesat depending on what aerials you have already in place.

I still have the old analogue ariel which works with my sony flatscreen tv with freeview. Although when the wind gets up the signal does break up quite often giving strange, creative results on people's faces.

Link to YouView units on eBay

Not a recommendation. Just so that you can take a look at what may be available.

I will also add that my sky broadband/ phone contract comes to an end on the 28th of the month and there may also be a provider that offers a free catchup box I could swicth to ? I am not with BT or Talk Talk so thise boxes i wont be able to use.

Does this seem a good machine ?

You don't need to be with BT or Talktalk to use the boxes....

Just like you don't need to be with SKY to use the NOW TV box.

You can get YouTube on a £9.99 NOW TV box. As to "all", you'll need to check the device that you consider.

As well as the Youview box I've got a Humax Freeview+ box, the HDR-Fox T2 and that has YouTube not sure about the Youview box though.
